Getting Started - Brand Building With Social Media

As a brand marketer, I'm a big believer in 'branding the customer experience,' not just selling the service.
John Sculley

Build Your Brand Long Term With Social

Most marketers wonder if it is possible to be successful with social media when only investing thirty minutes each day.

The key to running any successful social media campaign is your willingness to put in the time needed. There really are no shortcuts when it comes to building a strong social media presence.

Try some of these strategic tips for getting the most of your social marketing efforts.

Engage with your audience via social. It really is that simple. Take the time to read Tweets, study them, and reply with clear messages. The more time you spend working on studying the messages, the easier this will get.

When your time is limited, you have to start focusing on people who are posting messages that are most relevant to your business. If you try to read each post, you can easily experience information overload. Try to determine which people are making posts that have the more relevance to your customers.

Set a number of posts that you feel is appropriate, and try to reach that goal with your posts each day. If you run out of ideas or information, it is better to skip than try to post something just to be posting and keeping up appearances.

Don't feel you always have to get your message out from your profile page. Take the time to visit those you are following and leave the message on their pages too. That will mix up the content and give the audience to reason to believe you really do interact with your crowd.

If you are going to be away or you have an idea that you want to be seen by the most amount of followers, then it makes sense to do an automated post. If you had an idea at two in the morning, chances are that message will fall on deaf ears. Drop it in your automated system to go off at noon to be seen by the biggest crowd. This is perfect if you are going to be busy or away from the computer for a while too.

If you see a post from someone in your inner circle that really peaks your interest, interact immediately. Post a follow-up comment or just let them know you appreciated it by marking it favorite or sharing it with your inner circle. It only takes a second to hit the share button, and your fans will see on their feeds exactly what you have done. This takes minimal effort to accomplish.

Staying active doesn't mean posting low quality content. Take the time to really see if your posts are providing your audience any benefits. If you have a free e-book or book you want to share, make it available to the masses. Drop it on a landing page where you can grab email addresses, then post your message, Now you grow a mailing list of targeted contacts who believe in your messages.

Take the time to implement a few of these techniques and watch your social media marketing yield positive results. Enjoy the true power of these powerful platform with a structured and co-ordinated approach to social media marketing.

Key Questions To Ask Before You Begin Mobile App Development

by Saul Edmonds
key app questions

Top Questions To Ask Before Developing Your Mobile App

The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.
Ayn Rand

Getting Started With App Development

Developing a mobile app will set your business apart from your competition. Businesses of all sizes are now incorporating mobile app development into their brand outreach to capture more audience share globally.

Before you consider developing your mobile project, there are important questions you need to ask:

Should I Outsource the Project?

When you develop your mobile app in-house, your team has more control over the entire project from start to finish. Your team can add more people on staff to help collaborate new ideas and visions on the fly. This process tends to be more expensive just because of the time involved in development. If more time is spent on testing and implementation, costs can really grow.

Outsourcing your mobile app enables you to put the development in the hands of a trusted company with clear timelines and set costs. A specialist development agency can take care of your app from concept to release more efficiently and cost effectively because that is what they are in the business of doing.

What Device Should We Develop For?

With over 70% of Australians alone owning smartphones, it is projected that global ownership easily exceeds 800 million today.

With so many choices out there, it can be a challenge deciding which device your mobile app should be developed for. If budget allows, it is recommended to develop tailored solutions for both Apple and Android platforms. This increases your revenue opportunities with a diversified product strategy.

What Should the Mobile App Do?

Once you have identified the process of development and the platform to build on, define the specific purpose and required functionalities of your app.

Will your app be used for shopping, filing reports, or some other function? You need to determine if your app is going to be streamlined for one function or designed to perform multiple tasks for the user. It is sometimes better to create several smaller apps in circumstances where there are numerous features and functionalities.

The key here is to understand what your app should accomplish. Get to know your target mobile users and carefully gauge how your app can benefit them.

Why is the visual design important?

During the planning process you need to make decisions about your platform, device types, the language, and the overall functionality.

The visual design and user interface of your app is another important consideration.

Did you know that he average user has over 35 running apps on their smartphone? With thousands more apps competing for their attention in the app stores - your app must stand out in a way that gets you the attention you deserves. Use brilliant visual design to set your app apart from your competitors.

Design is a key component of the success of every app.

When you take this step by step approach to developing your mobile app, you are setting yourself up for a better mobile experience for all.

Have a Great App Idea? Answer These 4 Questions First!

by Saul Edmonds
Have a great app idea?

Top 4 Questions to Answer Before You Develop Your App

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
John F. Kennedy

Got a Great Idea for an App?

When you think you have a great app and are ready to get it listed in the app store, take a step back and carefully think a few things through.

Did you know that a huge percentage of apps are rejected before they even get a chance to make it to the store? Many developers are in such a rush to get their app listed, they forget key information, violate the terms and conditions of the store, or submit low quality content.

Before you get your app to development - take the time to ask yourself these important questions.

1. Who is Your Target Audience?

Have you considered who your target audience is yet?

The answer to this question can really help you to sculpt your perfect app. Even though you have a great idea, it is still just an idea. Unless that idea can translate to a specific audience, no one will download it. The thing you have to consider is there are millions of apps in the app store right now. Each designed to help the user address a problem or fill a need. If your product can do that, you have to find a way to reach your target market more effectively than your competitors.

Aim to inspire users to connect emotionally with your app. Only then will customers make the decision to buy. Your target audience must have a need that your app can fill. If your app is not tailored to a specific need of your audience, you may find it difficult to engage and make sales.

2. Will Your Target Audience Pay for the App?

This is a key question to consider. If you are looking to make money selling your app and there are a dozen listed in the iPhone store for free, you are going to have a challenge ahead of you as far as getting people to spend money. A simple alternative is to list it for free and run in-app advertisements.

The key - while the app is still within the development phase - is to sculpt your idea to an audience who is willing to pay for it. If you create a high quality app that fills a clear need, and you don't have too many similar apps given away for free, you have a great chance of commercial success.

3. Is Your Audience Large Enough?

Now you might have the perfect app, you have found a paying audience, and you don't have to worry about too many free apps in your niche.

Now you have to consider the size of your audience. How big is your audience?

If your niche is a micro niche, you might be reducing your audience to a fraction of what you thought it might be. The smaller the niche, the smaller the audience. This also means the smaller the sales and the smaller the profits. Consider if your app idea will appeal to a large enough audience who is willing to download the app.

4. Are There Similar Apps Available?

You could have a great idea for a mobile app, but if there are hundreds utilising the same idea, you may have a problem on your hands. This doesn't mean that you cannot create the app, you just have to work a little harder at getting the app noticed. This is where you have to really step up your design and marketing efforts to be successful. If you feel your app will be superior to those others, then get to social media and start promoting.

The more downloads and feedback you get, the more likely someone else will download your app as well. There are many channels available for promoting your app that will bring the users right to your app.

Even with a great app idea, it doesn't always mean you will have success in the app store. With millions of apps to choose from, you need stunning screenshots, an optimised description, a compelling title, and the right price - all of which will maximise your chances of success.

5 Keys to Building Trust in Your Mobile App

by Saul Edmonds
5 Keys to Building Trust in Your Mobile App

How to Build Trust With Your App Audience

Trust is the first step to love.
Munshi Premchand

Grow Trust to Grow Download Numbers

Social media has changed the way many people now shop online.

Increasingly, consumers will look to the opinions of others who have purchased before them to help in the buying decision. Websites that make way of reviews are gaining in popularity because the user has the chance to see a third party impartial review without having to invest any of their time or money in doing so.

The simple truth when it comes to mobile apps, users are much more inclined to download it if their friends are talking about it. The one thing you can do to encourage more downloads, is to provide social proof that the rest of a large community is already doing so.

Growing trust in your app will skyrocket your downloads.

Here are five effective methods for establishing growing trust in your mobile app.

1. Getting App Store Reviews

Start by getting as many friends and family members as you can to download the app and then rate it. Implement a prompt within your app that gets triggered after a user accesses it more than once to leave a review. If you can stay focused on providing your audience value, your reviews will grow. If you get slammed by the occasional poor rating, take the time to address that person in a positive way by looking for ways to improve the app moving forward. If you address the person this way, future users will see that you acted professionally and took action to improve the user experience.

2. Getting Testimonials

Testimonials are used on just about every website to help users feel comfortable about the purchase. They have been used effectively for decades, and they are still as powerful today as they were back then. The word spoken by a customer holds much more value than any other type of advertising that you might consider. Once you can secure some testimonials from users who have had a positive experience with your app, publish them any where you possibly can. Place them on your website, place them on the landing page of the app, even incorporate them into the description of the app to grab a users attention right from the start.

3. Using Logos

Logos help to reinforce to the user that this app is something they should seriously consider downloading. When you use popular logos from well established companies on your landing page, it gives the user assurance they are doing the right thing by downloading the app. The way that you can approach logos is one of two creative ways. The first is to simply place the logo of any well established yet recognized business that has downloaded the app already. The second is using the logos of well established publications that have written about your app in a positive way. If you are weak in logos, try adding the logos of popular social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn. These could be logos showing platforms that your app easily connects to.

4. User Statistics

Once you have a substantial amount of users who have successfully downloaded your app, tell your visitors about it on your app landing page. People simply love to go where the crowd is going. If thousands are downloading and enjoying your mobile app, new users might get the impression that they are missing out on something by not following their lead. There is also another way you can showcase user statistics. Incorporate social media plugins that show users how many people have shared or liked your app page. This is another effective way to show potential users that your app is popular and successful.

5. Using Case Studies

This is simply the advanced version of a testimonial. A case study will lay out clearly how real people have benefitted from downloading your mobile app. Your case study could showcase to other users how your app was downloaded by someone with a problem, how your app solved the problem, and then how your app went on to help them to achieve their goals in the end.

5 Stress Free Tips to Outsourcing Your App Development

by Saul Edmonds

5 Top Tips to Outsource Your App Development Effectively

The other part of outsourcing is this: it simply says where the work can be done outside better than it can be done inside, we should do it.
Alphonso Jackson

Learn the 5 Tips to Outsourcing Your Next App Development

Coming up with a great app idea is only half the battle, now you have to find the right app developer to bring it to life.

It can be very frustrating when you put everything into coming up with that amazing idea, only to have it destroyed by a developer who was not up to the task and created something that was not in line with what you envisioned. Pay close attention to the developer that you find, and follow these guidelines for a seamless relationship with your new partner.

1. The developer must understand your requirements

If you want more control over the eventual finished product, be as specific with the details early on in the development process.

The more details that you can provide, the easier it will be for the developer to come up with winning solutions, set timelines and cost effective pricing. Keep in mind that your project will only be as effective as the directions that you give to the developer.

2. Crystal clear means spending less money

If your directions are less than precise, your developer is going to fill in those voids along the way with their expertise. If there are several voids, they are going to be inputting quite a lot to the overall app design. Then if you find you don't like something - the developer has to go back and undo the work and implement new coding. This all takes time and that all means more money in the end.

When you are crystal clear as to the direction of the project, there will be less times the developer has to make judgement calls.

3. The timeline breakdowns are key

Once you have provided the developer with clear instructions, it is their responsibility to step up and provide you timeline breakdowns for the entire project. If you request the timeline while still early in the process, the developer will be on the same page as you and ensure that all things are completed in a timely manner.

This is also a great way to eliminate some of the worry you may have each week wondering when your project will be completed. If you understand in advance how the process will be unfolding, you and everyone else involved can breathe much easier.

4. The build intervals

One of the ways that you and your team can ensure everything is moving according to plan is by taking part in the build intervals.

Each step along the way, if all team members take part in the process, everyone can ensure it is moving according to plan.

The best way for the project to stay on course is by stopping at designated time to inspect that everything is coming along as expected. This should continue happening right up to the beta stage of the development. Then things will begin moving even faster, and more input will be needed from your end to complete the app.

A few revisions along the way is expected.

The developer will most likely hit a few bumps in the road where they tried to implement a fix. If these fixes are not in line with the overall project, the developer will make those changes now and get the project nearer to the final stage.

5. Collaborative effort on all sides

Even though the developer has more experience, they need to be involved in the thinking process and creative goals of your project. This will ensure they understand why the app was developed and which emotion needs it needs to trigger in the user.

Your app is eventually going to connect to the audience on an emotional level too, so informing the developer as to those feelings involved will give them a better understanding when they are working on the functionality of the app.

Once your developer understand these aspects of the build, they will be in a better position to help make your idea a reality. That initial concept will now be able to come to life in your new app.

3 Ways to Make More Money From Your App

by Saul Edmonds

3 Ways Your Mobile App Can Generate More Money

Do what you love and the money will follow - Marsha Sinetar

How to Make More Money From Your App

Apps are a business investment. A successful app will deliver a return on investment every day.

With several ways to monetize apps, it can be a challenge to determine which is the best to use. The key here is to understand how you want to monetise your app from the start. This way you can integrate monetisation into the development process and ensure that your app functions more seamlessly.

There are three popular pricing models to design your app around, and each is very unique in and of itself.

These are the three different types of platforms that you can use to monetise your app:

1. FREEmium for Games and Apps

The freemium pricing platform is not only generating the most revenue for app developers, it is also the most popular.

Of all the apps currently in the Apple App Store, freemium commands an impressive 76% of the market. If you were to look closely at the Asian markets, you would see this model actually accounts for 90% of the market.

The FREEmium platform is pretty basic in concept. The app is designed with basic features, given to the user for free. Downloaders can enjoy the free app until they decide they want to upgrade and get more features. Then the app costs money. This platform is extremely popular with users for two reasons. One, they are getting the app for free. They can enjoy that free app and test it out before committing to spending money on it.

The other benefit is the company is promoting good will by giving away their products. The user will remember this and it usually makes buying an app from that company much easier in the future. The free app allows the developer to remove that barrier that causes people to be hesitant about downloading apps.

The more apps are downloaded, the more popular the app becomes. People are also more willing to leave positive feedback when they were able to get the app for free initially. The ratings usually overlook certain bugs on account they got the app for free. This is definitely a win-win for the developer.

2. One Time Paid Mobile Apps

This app model is very popular too. Here, the user pays a price for an app and never has to pay again regardless how many upgrades or features are added to the app.

The app needs to be compelling enough for the user to lay out the money without first getting to sample the goods. Usually a developer who already has a record of creating high quality apps can work this platform much more effectively than a developer who is new to the market.

If your app is designed so well that you are sure users will simply fall in love with it, this is a great platform to jump into. The word of mouth marketing will definitely help to propel sales as more users become engaged with the content. Once the user has been using this app for a while and enjoying all the free feature upgrades, they are more likely to pass on the word to the masses about how happy they are.

Consider this platform when your app has been thoroughly tested and is destined to be the next best thing.

3. The Paid Apps with Paid Features

With this platform, the user pays a fee upfront for the initial download. Then - as the app is improved at later dates - the user pays again for new features.

While this is one of the roads less traveled when it comes to monetising apps, many developers are quite successful in this platform.

If your app is high quality and you are addressing a problem that many other apps miss the mark on, you may be in a great position to consider this monetisation platform. This platform will generate a recurring income stream to the business long term and can really help the developer create credibility with users.

Reserved for premium apps, don't be afraid to travel this road if you feel your app can deliver on the promise of solving a need.

Is Your Website Ready for Mobilegeddon?

by Saul Edmonds

Well maybe not Mobilegeddon, but for many websites around the globe it may as well be with Google's major algorithm change that started 21st of April.

This new algorithm will be gradually rolled out worldwide, affecting mobile searches in all languages in all corners of the globe.

This April 21 Google update looks to be the biggest mobile-related algorithm change we’ve ever seen, but I'll bet that it won't be the last. If you don’t have a mobile or responsive version of your site in place by April 21 (today), your search visibility could be seriously hindered.

How to prepare
If your site is already mobile-friendly or responsive, you won’t have much to worry about. However, if you have not yet implemented a mobile strategy for your online presence, now is the critical time to get it done. Follow these steps:

  • Ensure the mobile version of your site is active and functional. Responsive designs are the most popular, but you can also have a separate hosted mobile version of your site. Google doesn’t have a preference, as long as mobile users’ experience isn’t interrupted.

  • Ensure Google’s mobile bots can crawl your site. If Google can’t see it, it may as well not even be there.

  • Check each individual page of your site on a mobile device to ensure navigability. Just because your home page is mobile friendly doesn’t mean the rest of your site is.

Google additionally offers two tools you can use to check whether your site is mobile-friendly. First, you can use the appropriately named Mobile-Friendly Test to see whether your site meets initial qualifications. Google Webmaster Tools also contains a convenient Mobile Usability Report you can run to examine your website as Google sees it.

If you are looking to move to a New Responsive Website or Mobile Version of your existing site we have a great offer for the next month with 20% off all New Responsive Websites - See below and Contact us Today

How to Boost App Sales This Christmas

    by Saul Edmonds

Key Tips to Boosting Your App Sales With Christmas Marketing

As we give presents at Christmas, we need to recognize that sharing our time and ourselves is such an important part of giving.
    Gordon B. Hinckley

    Sharing is Caring

In the last two years, over 17 million Android and iOS devices were activated.

This Christmas you can bet that millions of happy children will be opening their brand new smartphones, and what happens soon after those gifts are open? If history is any indication, Christmas last year saw those kids download in excess of 328 million apps.

This year could set new records in app downloads.

Here are some unique tips to boost your apps sales this holiday season.

    • Start focusing more on your marketing and promotions.

If you have been creating advertisements in recent weeks, scale up that production by ten fold. In order to get the most interaction, your apps need to be noticed. These ads will draw in plenty of new visitors who want to download you app to their phone.

One way to grab the attention of a new audience is to update the app with a unique holiday theme.

A new version will grab the search engine attention, and possibly spotlight your app on a popular purchase page. Even if you add a few holiday backgrounds or creating animated snow falling images, update the description of the app. Create new screenshots so the visitors will understand this is a newer app and has recently undergone changes.

    • Create a free offer or a special one of a kind limited deal.

Try discounting the price of the app during certain days leading up to and past the holiday.

Christmas week will be the time in which the most downloads occur, so be sure to offer your best possible price during that week.

If you want to really skyrocket downloads, give away the app for free for a special day. All those free downloads will help to create a buzz around your app. This raises it in the search results and will help to spread the word of mouth more easily. A free app is more likely to be shared and then downloaded again.

The popular 12 days of Christmas song is a great theme to base your discounts and promotions around. Run this promotion on all your social media platforms, and each of the 12 days of Christmas you can promote a different sale. On the day that your app is free, gift your audience a certain amount that they can easily redeem on that app for songs, other apps, or movies. You can see the "Send Gift" button on the bottom of the page in the iTunes store. Simply choose the correct gift amount and then enter the email address of each person you want to offer this special to. If you want to give stuff away in the hopes of drawing more attention, this is the way to do it.

    • Use the Power of Word of Mouth Marketing

The name of the game when it comes to your app is generating word of mouth.

In order to do that effectively, you have to stand out from your millions of competitors in the app stores.

If you are running a free promo, consider giving your users something else that has some value. Free coins is something every user can take and use to buy other items online. They don't have to pay for the items, so they will appreciate your generous offer by sharing and promoting your offer to their social following.

    • Optimise Social Media Marketing

One of the things you must do this holiday season is promote your app correctly on as many social profiles as possible.

Customize your marketing plan to be more in tune with the holidays. Don't just focus on the design looking more festive, make certain that the messaging is also related to the holidays. If you can pitch that your app is the perfect gift for your children, friends, coworkers, or friends, it sounds more like something the average user will want to pick up.

Utilise a few of these tips to boost app sales and you will see your downloads increase faster that you might imagine.

Once word of mouth begins to spread, your app is on the way to becoming on of the must haves this holiday season.
