[00:00:24]  Gillian: Okay, thanks, Saul. Well, today, we'll be talking about website design and we're going to focus on small business websites and ask the question, which CMS is best for small business. Our goal is to help small business owners’ start-ups and entrepreneurs in the city of Brisbane, Australia, take their opportunities to the next level with brilliant website design. If you're from another location, or city, welcome. Thanks for joining us today. And we hope that we can help you grow your business in the online space and grow.

[00:00:54]  Saul: So what's today's topics, Joe?

[00:00:56]  Gillian: Well, we're going to focus for a moment on how to find a good website designer in the north side of Brisbane but first of all, we're just going to start out with a basic discussion about website design, and particularly CMS for small business, and of course, CMS stands for Content Management System. That's right so with regard to small business websites soul, which is the best CMS platform to build your site on? what could it be? Could it be WordPress?

[00:01:25]  Saul: Yes, that's right. Well, I guess for everyone who loves WordPress, it will be. Yes, definitely. WordPress.

[00:01:33]  Gillian: Well, Saul. You'll the website expert so what do you think?

[00:01:36]  Saul: Okay, so let's just say, before we dive into it a little bit more, that everyone has their own preferences. This is from the web designers point of view, but also with some clients who have had some experience with a CMS, people will have generally opinions that are informed by the previous experience, or what I think would be easier so you've got things like WordPress, Squarespace, other hosted solutions, like Wix and then [inaudible], Magenta, and the list goes on. WordPress is probably considered the world's most popular content management system, ways to build websites. I guess, if we're going to say some of the factors, where you would say, what would be like the best CMS for small business office sites, in general, you've got to have some reason or justification for that, I would consider a really important one. If we're going to say,  it probably would be WordPress. Being that, as your business grows, generally, you've got no side is feature proof. There's no such thing. But WordPress, because it's open to a lot of other people to be able to create a whole host of plugins and things to add to it to add extra value to it. That gives a lot more options. Generally speaking for people, instead of saying that, too, if you went over to something like Squarespace, it's also whilst it doesn't have those same options in the same level of flexibility. It's got most of the tools that people need, it's got a very easy straightforward way to edit things in it was still being quite powerful at the same time. But I said, like, if you're going to say which one would be better for the long term for scalability, you go with something like WordPress, with all the things you don't know that you need yet.

[00:03:58]  Gillian: And what does a platform Gemma?

[00:04:01]  Saul: Well, [inaudible]  has improved a lot visually and user friendliness wise over these two, but it's got, it's got a whole host of like some similar aspects to WordPress in that there's parts to it that other people can make things to add on in the form of plugins and other aspects that you can integrate your most popular, most popular CMS is have these similar features driven by the needs of other integrations, because that's a really big part of using a modern website these days, is how well it can integrate with other services online that never used to be the case at all wasn't a big deal.

[00:04:59]  Gillian: And what about highly complex solutions?

[00:05:02]  Saul: so highly complex web solutions mean like a brief? Exactly, yeah. So that's going to most of these if like WordPress, [inaudible], Magenta,  depending on what that brief is, most of them can handle a very complex sort of solutions complex meaning other things that say aren't already existing within them, that you need to either build on to, or to customize. But in saying that, if you if that just means having a very big complex in size and scope, so inside something like Shopify or Squarespace, I mean, they can handle that just fine but say, once again, just going back to if you want feature scalability, and then you don't want to have to move away from something like Squarespace which might be just fine forever. For some people, that's all they need, there is more than what they need. But if that's going to change, WordPress.

[00:06:18]  Gillian: Well, um, above all, what are some key points that you want to make sure your CMS really delivers on? What would you say to this, Saul?

[00:06:26]  Saul: okay, so if it's going to be installed, say on a server quick and easy installation, is, is really important. Sometimes that's going to be done. Why web designer anyway, so but that's still a factor, a good simple, easy to navigate admin interface where you log in to the back end, because it's going to make it easier have a hopefully, like showed a learning curve for people who are unfamiliar with it, by practice,  practice makes perfect. So you just need to use it as well, quick and easy to add extra functionality to liking WordPress, simple to customize any template options that are already there. I'll just quickly say in that to one of the things inside WordPress, in particular, is not every WordPress template or WordPress website is exactly the same, because they open it up to third party developers, you've got your core WordPress setup, but then the way that you edit it in website can vary greatly, some are a lot easier, and some not quite so easy. That's so that's where I'm getting advice. From your website designer talking to them about that is a really good question to ask to even ask them and  example of how that looks, and the availability of support and help when you need it.

[00:08:06]  Gillian: Okay, so well, for people who are located on the north side of Brisbane, what are some tips you can give them to help them find a good local website, website developer, or designer?

[00:08:18]  Saul: Okay.  All of us know, one of the first things we do is we jump on Google, and you search for might be website designer, if you live on the north side of his bed, if you going over to, like [evident Park], for example. And  you want specifically to work with somebody who's just around the corner, or at least is reasonably local, most people will just jump on Google and search for that. And so if the if that website designer is ranking well, for that particular search term, which word Yeah, probably indicate that they've got a good level of SEO knowledge, or they just got lucky. Yeah, but probably that they know what they're doing. That could also have an impact on if that's happening, you'll..

[00:09:13]  Gillian: if they can do that for their business? Well, they can do for us too.

[00:09:17]  Saul: Yeah, that is probably an accurate assumption to make but then also, just to be able to, for some people being able to meet in person is a bigger deal than it is for other people so finding somebody local, also for heaps of people means that they, it's more important because they're supporting other local businesses, like themselves, and what goes around comes around from one sort of helps each other out so..

[00:09:51]  Gillian: Go local. Grow local.

[00:09:53]  Saul: That's right.

[00:09:53]  Gillian: Keep saying that one.

[00:09:54]  Saul: Yeah, that's right.

[00:09:56]  Gillian: Yeah. I mean, I don't know. That's the Queensland Government, small business Canada slogan at the moment.

[00:10:01]  Saul: Yeah, that's right. And they do. They are, you have to give them credit, like they try and try hard to support back.

[00:10:10]  Gillian: That is true, though.

[00:10:14]  Saul:  Yeah, it is. That is as much of a cliché as it is, it is actually true. The more you support each other, the more you grow.

[00:10:22]  Gillian: Win-win

[00:10:22]  Saul: Enough of the clichés now that's it for today, guys, thank you so much for listening. Before we go, please don't forget to rate review and subscribe to this podcast.
