A Guide To Best Practice Enterprise App Development

How To Grow Your Business With Enterprise Apps

sept17-blog_10 Best Practices For Enterprise Mobile App Development.png

When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, businesses of all sizes are finding new ways to take advantage of the technology of the day.

The business world was revolutionized once the computer became a global phenomenon, and now it appears enterprise mobile apps are poised to have the same impact around the world.

These enterprise mobile apps are focused on software that is user-friendly.

These apps are used by employees working in the field, the sales team, maintenance department, and even delivery personnel. These apps are not developed with the customer in mind, they are used to streamline the business, organize tasks, and manage data.

Overloading the team with enterprise mobile apps that have a ton of unnecessary features is not good for business, so better understanding what needs to go into that app can go a long way in the success of your company.

Here are the 10 best practices for enterprise mobile app development success.

1. Detailed Training Program

Throughout the company, there are going to be employees that have different levels of technology literacy.

Expecting the entire work force to instantly understand the enterprise mobile app is too much to be asking. All employees will eventually need to be on board with the software, so creating a detailed training program that will bring everyone up to speed is advised. By keeping close tabs on employees during the training, eventually everyone will absorb the information at their own pace.

2. Minimizing App Sizes

Be sure that the app size is small enough that it is not taking up too much space on the user's device.

When the work force is spending a considerable amount of time of the road, they may be using several other apps to perform work duties. When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, go for streamlined and nimble, focusing on core functions and nothing else.

3. Importance of Branding

The enterprise mobile app must be consistent with the rest of the company brand.

Instead of just offering the team a bare-bones experience, sprinkle in some branding flair without taking up too many of the resources of the device. As the employees get more comfortable with the app and the branding message resonates with them, they help to spread that word in everything they do.

4. What Is Important

It is important to walk a mile in your employee's shoes before the enterprise mobile app development can commence.

When the team is on the road most of the year, if you do not understand what they need in order to perform at a high level while away from the office, the app will never provide the team benefits. Focus on responding to their unique needs, getting in-depth insights to what kind of challenges they face each day.

5. Adaptive Designing

By using more versatile layouts compatible with laptops, tablets, and mobile devices, you can keep the whole team on board.

There really is no telling what platforms work best in certain situations, so the enterprise mobile app development needs to work across all these platforms effortlessly. It is hard to assume which device each employee is more comfortable with, so cross design covers them all.

6. Focused Content

Determine what features are most important to the overall project and focus there.

Leave all the other aspects of the project out of the mix, the last thing you want to do is confuse or distract these employees from the task at hand. If you focus on the content, then the likelihood that users will drift off to social media or other features is less likely because they only have one option in front of them. A clean simple look can often have the biggest positive impact for a business.

7. Iterative Design

The way iterative design works is simple, once the enterprise mobile app development has commenced, updates will be deployed in cyclical patterns.

This helps to allow the development team to get feedback from the users along the way without having to roll out one huge update. The design is never going to be perfect the first time out, so by making use of this technique, in time the overall mobile app will be better in tune with work best for everyone.

8. User Experience

One of the things the enterprise mobile app development team need to address is the user experience.

The ultimate goal of the app creates a workable software that enhances the day of the user at work. Once it becomes a part of their everyday routine, they will be able to work more efficiently. Those apps that are created that are too cumbersome simple are left to their own and never utilized, a waste of valuable resources. When the design team can look at the apps they use each day and draw upon those experiences, the entire project will be a success.

9. The App Protection

Employees will be able to take advantage of data encryption, authentication, and management sensitive information, which keep data protected even when they are in use at multiple remote locations.

It is important to make use of the App Store because as the web becomes larger, your assets must be protected.

10. Smart Sensors

As the technology keeps advancing each year, it is important to stay ahead of the curve and incorporate some IoT technology into the app design.

These employees are already familiar with this technology at home when they order a pizza, lock up their house, or turn on the oven from their mobile device, so look for ways to make their time at work less stressful and more productive.

Things to consider with the enterprise mobile app development is GPS, sound activation, or remote access features.

When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, keep an eye on the needs of the employees and the other on future development. This is plenty of information to help your business to get a good start in the right direction with starting on your own enterprise app, so take advantage and get working on that implementation today!

5 Top Reasons Why Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones

    by Saul Edmonds

Why Are Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones?

sept17-blog_5 Top Reasons Why Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones.png

"There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why." ―William Barclay

The question concerning why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones can not be answered in one sentence.

This appears to be one of those complicated relationships that only the two parties involved really understand what the core issue could be. For those of us looking in from the outside, we can speculate and assume, but that is all we really have to go by.

Taking a look from an impartial point of view, we look more closely at the 5 top reasons why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones. (Just like any relationship, the deeper we look, the more obvious the problem appears.)

    1. Ending a Relationship

Google and Microsoft definitely have an interesting relationship to say the least.

Even though these two companies would love to break free of one another, they need each other to a small extent.

Google has developed Google Docs to try and replace Microsoft Office, so then Microsoft developed Bing to replace Google Search. The fact is they still need each other because Google Chrome runs best on Microsoft Windows, and then Microsoft needs Google Apps to try and entice new users to come on board.

That being said, Windows Phones is the one hurting the most from this relationship. As of today, there is only one Google app available in the Windows App Store, and it was last updated years ago. Google Apps is getting more bang for their buck at the Apple Store, so they have not even considered expansion.

    2. No Respect for the Windows Phone

It is really clear by the amount of Google Apps in the Windows Phone App Store that they have little or no respect for this platform.

The biggest reason why the apps are not available at this time has to simply do with market share. Look at it from the perspective of the marketing giant Google. They currently share about 70% of the market with their Android, compared to a measly 8% that the Windows Phone holds.

That is not enticing enough for Google to want to play in that game.

Microsoft just is not grabbing the market by storm, so in the eyes of Google, there really is no fire that needs their attention at this time.

    3. The Windows Phone Isn't Google-Friendly

If you strip away all the theories about why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones, you can not get away from the fact that Google is in competition with Apple and Microsoft.

Looking at the amount of apps in the Windows Store, Google doesn't feel the urge to push the issue.

Now the same can be said a few years ago when Google had basically nothing in the Apple App Store. Then something happened, Apple popularity exploded. When Apple all of a sudden became a threat to Google, all of a sudden you begin to see an abundance of Google apps showing up in the Apple App Store.

Once they realized Apple was becoming too popular, they decided that they needed to be in that space. Market shares play a huge role, and right now Google just doesn't feel like they need to be worried about Microsoft.

Looking deeper, when the iPhone was released, it came installed with Google Maps, Google Search YouTube, and a Mail app.

When the Windows Phone was released, it came with Bing Maps, SkyDrive, Bing Search, no ability to make 3rd-party browsers Google-friendly
    .

Even if Google did release YouTube or Hangouts to the Windows App Store, those users are going to be making use of Bing Search and IE, so there is zero benefit or incentive to make the effort.

Google also knows that even though people want to try these Windows Phones, they won't without certain apps. Even though people would consider the phones, Google is holding the cards right now and isn't budging.

    4. Windows Phones are Dangerous

Another reason why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones, Google sees them as a threat.

Google feels that the relationship they have with Apple is not threatening at all, they are not worried in the least that users are going to ditch because Google feels Apple does not have many services that will conflict with theirs.

On the other hand, Microsoft is a much bigger threat because they have Office, Bing Search, Skype, and Outlook. If Google loses a user to the Windows Phone, Google stands to lose more than they want to consider. Google doesn't want to give Microsoft any attention or the users may start doing the same.

    5. Windows Phone Issues

Perhaps the biggest reason that Google is not going to play nice with Microsoft is that Google simply has a major problem with the Windows platform in general.

The best way to explain this issue is that Microsoft offers users alternatives to many of the services that are already being provided by Google. Google feels that once a person tries the phone, they may start to get more comfortable with Bing or Skype, and rely less on all the services that Google offers.

Right now, by limiting the apps from showing up in the Windows App Store, Google feels that little to none of their users will be jumping ship anytime soon to be the first to experiment on the other platform.

These are 5 of the reasons why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones. Google does not feel like they have to be worried about the competition as long as they are taking care of things on their home front. If Google can keep the user happy on their platform, they know the user is less likely to be looking for another.

The only thing that could change this relationship is if Microsoft becomes like Apple, a huge threat, and if that occurs, Google will certainly do whatever it takes to stay in front of their captive audience. For now, Google is not worried.

What is the Future of Mobile Development for Business?

      by Saul Edmonds

How to Use Mobile Development To Propel Future Business Growth

sept17-blog_What is the Future of Mobile Development for Business-.png
The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.
      — Author Unknown

Take control of your mobile future

Whilst the future may be unknown - there is certainty in the power of mobile technology and innovation to drive growth.

Take a look at mobile phone sales over the past few years and it is clear that the explosion in technology has been a boom for mobile development.

Each year, phones get cheaper, faster, and more powerful, as well as the number of users growing into the billions. At the end of 2017, there were already more than 10 billion mobile devices accessing the internet, and that number is only going to keep growing.

      Stay Ahead of the Curve

In order to stay ahead of the curve, you need to understand today what is the future of mobile development for business.

      A Cross Platform Future

The days of single platform mobile apps are long gone, and the future appears to be heading towards the cross device and cross platform development.

Android will always be the cheaper option and dominate as far as sales, iOS is going to dominate the higher end market, so it only stands to reason that in the near future these two will merge somehow.

As HTML5 begins to grow in popularity, the future will be packed with hybrid applications that are going to work across a number of platforms. What appears to be challenging for developers today, will become easier and more in demand, so better to get a start today planning for the eventual evolution of the mobile app platforms.

      The Internet of Tomorrow

One of the more exciting changes that will be taking over the mobile development world in the near future is the IoT technology.

The IoT (Internet of Tomorrow) technology is already making waves today, mainly in Apple Watches and Google Glass, and things are going to get even more impressive.

The idea of self-driving cars is going to be more evident in the near future, and the ability of the internet to be able to make our lives easier is going to be like science fiction in real life. Mobile applications in the future will be cooking our meals, planning our days, paying our bills, and controlling our home security. It is just a matter of time before this is the norm instead of the rare exceptions.

The Fast Pace of Evolving Technology

With more mobile phones hitting the market each year and more users year to year, the pressure for developers to produce new apps in a timely manner without errors will be a top priority. Software kits will become more advanced too as online app developing programs will have to keep up with the curve too.

      Stay Competitive

At the pace technology will be advancing, you had better get with the program today or you risk falling so far behind that you will be unable to bridge that gap when you have to get your app developed in a competitive niche.

Although the focus today is on customer apps, in the very near future we are going to see a shift in the landscape as enterprise apps start getting more attention. Those needing enterprise apps will be willing to put out large sums of money to acquire target audiences.

These enterprises seek to be ahead of the pack - utilising mobile apps and innovation to grow their bottom line and client base.

Location Based Services Will Continue To Grow

One of the key trends in mobile development will be the advancement of location-based services.

Today we are starting to see these applications gaining popularity, from ordering a taxi or a pizza with the mobile device, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

In the very near future, location-based services are going to become more common for the average person. In a very short period of time, a person will be able to search for an electrician, repairman, mechanic, painter, insurance agent, or mortgage broker, and the app will find a qualified local company in seconds and schedule the appointment. The average homeowner will be able to order any type of service for their home on their mobile device in seconds.

      The Reigning Cloud Power

The power of the cloud is already making waves these days as more businesses are utilizing the space to share content with staff away from the office.

Although the technology allows people in different parts of the world to share the same content in seconds, this is nothing compared to what will be coming down the pike in cloud computing.

Mobile phones are becoming faster, and more powerful, and that means that the storage space in the phone is going to be pushed to its limits.

Instead of pictures and videos slowing down the functions of the phone, cloud based apps allow users to access a huge amount of apps without compromising the speed of the mobile phone. Cloud storage also helps users to sync and then access their database from anywhere with zero risk of data corruption.

This mobile app development trend is only going to continue to grow in the near future.

      The Need For Protection

As the technology continues to advance at break-neck speeds, and more people are feeling comfortable about using their mobile devices to do everything, so does the threats of hackers accessing user information.

It wasn't too many years ago where most people would not expose their credit card information readily over their mobile device, yet today those same people are paying for gas, food, and services with apps on their phones that store their banking information. With the smartphone becoming more important to people each year, so does our dependence on them for accessing our bank information or other private data.

This means the need for security based apps will only be in more demand.

      A Plan for Change

Now you should have a better understanding about what is the future of mobile development for business and how you can plan accordingly to stay ahead of the curve. It is easier to make changes in advance than it is doing anything in reaction.

Take a proactive approach to your mobile development today to plan for tomorrow.

3 Keys To Effective Brand Storytelling

      by Saul Edmonds

How To Build Your Business With Storytelling

sept17-blog_3 Keys To Effective Brand Storytelling.png

“The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon.” ―Brandon Sanderson

      Tell Your Story

To better understand what is brand storytelling, you have to start thinking differently about your marketing than you have in the past.

With brand storytelling, it is all about the customer, although many get confused here and think this has to be all about the business.

If you get this wrong, the story is not going to connect with your audience like it would if the story made them the center of focus. On the surface, your business might not be telling a clear linear story, but if you created the story of your brand correctly, it will influence customer interactions, marketing messages, and your site's copy.

      Your Customer Is The Focus

The bottom line is this, you are not the centre of focus in your brand story, the customer is.

Once you understand this concept the rest of the pieces will fall into place and your marketing communications will transform. Look at it this way, your customer has a need, that is why they came to your website in the first place.

The job of your brand is to use the right tools to guide them to achieve their goals, not yours.

Now that you better understand what brand storytelling is about, we have to focus on learning how to tell that story.

When done correctly, you take selling services and products and put them secondary to creating stories that engage your audience. The stories need to be carefully crafted, curated, and then distributed to your audience.

Here are 3 ways to effectively tell the story of your brand and keeping the focus on the customer.

      1. Reinforcing Your Brand's Purpose or Mission

Rather than promoting your low prices, your fast shipping, or the fact that you have been in business for so many years, your story needs to focus on the needs of the customers.

Although you sell specific items, all your customers have different needs and reasons for shopping at your store. Some customers are not concerned about price, others do not care how long you have been in business, but they all have certain needs.

If you can make the customer feel value through your brand - you have successfully engaged them.

So to do this effectively and to cover all your customers, your brand storytelling needs to reinforce the needs being met of your customers.

Your brand should focus on showcasing high quality merchandise that will last, so the customer is not shopping again for the same items in a few months because the materials are inferior.

Focus on how the customer is going to feel before, during, and after the purchase. Make the shopping experience personal for them, let them know every step of the way their business is valued. Having exceptional customer service is an asset here, like having a live chat feature so customers can speak to a live person to get immediate answers during their shopping experience.

The mission of your company needs to be on making the customer feel valued each step of the way.

      2. Highlighting Your Brand's Values

One of the ways to expand upon brand storytelling is to highlight your brand's values.

When your values are providing a unique shopping experience for the customer, then you have to make changes to reflect that.

For example, a customer comes to your store to buy a shirt, but they are not sure which color or style to buy. It is one thing to have a live operator help with the questions, but that does not help the buyer imagine what the outfit is going to look like on them or with other pieces. The solution in this instance could be an interactive program that allows the user to take different pieces in the store and mix with others to see in real-time what the outfit looks like.

Many eyeglass retailers have already jumped on this feature, creating a program that allows the user to upload their face, and then as they choose glasses from the store it is placed in real-time on their face. This not only allows the customer to see what the glasses look like on their face, it is part of the brand storytelling that instills confidence in the buyer that this company really cares.

These implementations in your web design are part of your brand, but they put the customer front and centre.

      3. Engaging Specific Customers or Groups

Now when it comes to brand storytelling, the above examples were designed to improve the shopping experience for all customers.

Now we have to fine-tune the process so that you are engaging specific groups or customers. The way that you do this without isolating other buyers is try to incorporate as many groups into one process. Chances are if you do this correctly, most people will fall into one or more of the groups, so they don't feel like you are leaving them out. So again we target the clothing retail outlets online for our example, and here you want to try and target certain groups of buyers.

The way you do it on the inside is create tags for each piece of apparel, youth, adult, toddle, men's, women's, XS, XXXL, long sleeve, etc. Now when the buyers arrive at the store, rather than leave them on their own to make their way through all the inventory, the website greets them and asks for a few pieces of information to personalize their shopping experience. Once they enter youth, female, XS, the website will present links to those items so the buyers can shop like the store rearranged everything just for them.

      Your Customer Is The Hero

The goal of brand storytelling is to provide authentic value to the customer that keeps them coming back over and over.

The customer must feel like you are rolling out the red carpet each time they come to your website, so your brand story needs to connect with providing them a unique shopping experience that is all about them.

Your customers are growing tired of sales banner ads, flash videos, and commercials. Your customers want that meaningful connection, providing them a unique shopping experience.

With brand storytelling, make the customer the hero of the story, then over-deliver with the experience.

Native App Development vs Cross Platform App Development - Which is Right For Your Business?

            by Saul Edmonds

An Essential Overview of Native App Development & Cross Platform App Development For Business

sept17-blog_Native App Development vs Cross Platform App Development - Which is Right For Your Business-.png

"It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; its the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time." ―David Allan Coe

            Before You Build Your App

Before your app can even get out of the development gate, you will come to a fork in the road that will force you to make a decision that will affect your user experience long-term. The fork in the road is having to decide between native app development or the cross platform app development.

Choose correctly and you will enhance the overall user experience (UX) and help to drive more targeted traffic to your business.

To help you to decide which of these two is right for your business, we need to look at the benefits of each so you will be in a better position to decide today.

            Native App Development

The native app development is the application program designed to be used on one particular device or platform.

Also known as native apps, they are written for one specific platform and will easily interact with all the operating system features or other types of software that will be installed on this platform.

This is a development process that makes use of every feature easily for the design team. The reason that many programmers and developers prefer the native apps process is because the application is written in the programming language that will be specific for that platform only. The most common languages that developers will use is the Java for Android devices and the Swift or Objective-C for the Apple devices.

To get a better understanding of how these application works in real-time, one only needs to look at the extremely popular Angry Bird or Instagram apps. These are both native applications and simplistic on the surface, but highly functional depending on the mobile device.

When making use of native applications, developers can incorporate app-defined or standard operating gestures. This type of development process can make use of the device's notification system and has the ability to work offline too.

            Enhance Your Users Experience

With native app development, this is a faster and more reliable platform that is more responsive to the user. Users are all about speed when they use their mobile devices, any hiccups or hangups can ruin the overall user experience.

When utilising native app development - your app can tap into other functions within the device, such as compass, camera, microphone, or swiping gestures.

If the developer chooses native app development, push notifications can be used to alert the user of new content, new upgrades, or whenever you want to get the user to take a certain call to action.

Of both types of app development, native app development seems to be on the rise year to year as it is growing in popularity on many fronts.

            Cross Platform App Development

To get a better understanding about what is cross platform development, it is designing software or services that can easily run on multiple platforms or a variety of software environments.

Developers and engineers will need to use a large amount of different methods to ensure the app functions well on different operating systems for a single product.

When it comes to cross platform development, the most common and universal of languages is java, an intermediate language category.

The Challenges of Cross Platform Development

Make no mistake about it, this is the more challenging processes for developers because it needs to work on Windows, Linux, Mac, and more. Most engineers will employ one of two developing methods, compiling an executable program into an operating environment or using an intermediate language and then compiling only once.

With the cross platform development, obviously you are going to get a greater reach because you cover more applications and platforms. Developing the app that can run on Android and iPhone is a huge advantage when your competition only has one. With this type of development, you have the potential to tap into a greater market.

The Advantages of Cross Platform Development

Perhaps the biggest advantage to the cross platform development is when changes are needed to be made. Once the change has been deployed by the development team, it immediately synchs to all the platforms and devices instantly.

Of course, when you have developed the app to run on all those platforms and devices, it tends to look more uniform because there is only a single code running in the background for them all.

With cross platform development, if you’re using Appcelerator, your team can easily then code HTML5 and convert for a variety of mobile platforms. You will be using resources you already have and converting them for future deployment across a number of different platforms.

When it comes to saving money, you can expect reduced development costs when using the cross platform development method.

When you are custom designing the application, there are unlimited amounts of tools out there that can to make the process easier. Tools like Unity, Rhonmobile, Ramp, PhoneGap, Open Plug, and Grapple, make the task much easy for you. When you are custom designing the application, you need all the help you can get in differences in tools and languages for each platform’s API.

An Effective App Design is Crucial For Success

As far as cross platform development, developers will need to be able to work together to figure out a solution so that the diverse screen layouts of the iPhone and Android are not an issue. Creating an app design that looks great on all devices can be a challenge, but most developers are up to this task.

As far as platform integration with cross platform development, it might appear on the surface that integrating preferences, local settings, and notifications can be problematic at the beginning. Utilizing cloud options should eliminate these concerns and allow the development process to continue without real issues.

Work With A Trusted App Development Team

            - Discuss Your App Idea and Your Goals

When it comes to native app development vs cross platform app development, now you should have a better idea which is right for your business. The right app development team will help you determine which is the best choice for your app, and your budget.

By taking the time to look at both alternatives, you can get a better understanding how to approach the project long-term. This is not a set-it and forget-it space, modifications and tweaking are part of an ongoing process.

The ultimate goal is to learn more about your app's users, and how you can meet their needs to deliver the ultimate app experience across all devices.

What is the Difference Between a Marketing Agency and a Brand Agency?

                  by Saul Edmonds

Brand Agency vs Marketing Agency - How To Choose The Right Solution For Your Business

sept17-blog_What is the Difference Between a Marketing Agency and a Brand Agency-.png

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” ― Robert Frost

                  Brand First, Market Second

Perhaps you are wondering what is the difference between a marketing agency and a brand agency, so today we are going to paint a clear picture so there will be no doubt in your mind.

When you better understand the difference in marketing and branding, you will be able to move your business in the right direction and in the correct order.

At the most basic level, marketing is the process of pushing your message to the target audience where branding is more about creating attention to your company. So to better understand, the branding comes first, then the marketing follows. Your company owns your marketing, your customers own your brand.

The Role Of Your Marketing Agency

The marketing agency does not have to develop the theme or logo for your company, all that is in place already. The marketing agency is going to discuss with a company their goals and core values, then try to align an advertising strategy that will connect with the most qualified consumers. This can only be done successfully if the branding has already been completed by a brand agency.

The Role Of Your Brand Agency

The brand agency is all about helping to identify your business values and help give them a face. The brand of your company goes out like a beacon to the world, and if done correctly, connects with people on an emotional level. The brand is how the consumer will be able to identify your company from the millions in your niche, so it really has to be done with creative skill, care and focus.

Remember - Your Brand Is More Than Your Logo

When it comes to branding, we think of a brand-name, packaging, and graphic identity.

Branding is not just the process of creating a compelling logo that resonates with buyers, branding is more about ideas, perceptions, notions about the company, a product, or the service. If you can connect to a buyer on an emotional level, then the marketing aspect will be easier because they are already invested emotionally.

Marketing is a more complex aspect because you are taking one company and one core set of values and trying to reach a global audience. Think of branding as the bulls-eye on the dart board, and marketing and the entire rest of the board. Marketing is all about doing anything that will attract a large majority of people to show some interest in the company.

Brand For the Long Term, Market For The Mid Term

One week a certain marketing technique may work, then next month a whole new approach could show bigger results. With marketing, you have to get immediate results in order to continue the process. Marketing is not about developing long-term relationships like with branding, this mid-term approach is all about getting more people though the doors.

The goal of the branding agency is to help a business to connect with and then establish longer relationships with clients. Branding is all about keeping focus on the bigger picture, helping to provide the consumer everything they need that they are not getting from a business in a similar niche. Branding focuses on creating consistent, trusting, coherent, strong relationships.

What Should You Expect From A Professional Brand Agency?

                        by Saul Edmonds

5 Step To Brilliant Brand Design For Your Business

sept17-blog_What Should You Expect From A Professional Brand Agency-.png

"All of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You." ―Tom Peters

How to hire the right brand agency for you and your business

Perhaps you are ready to move forward with your hiring of a brand agency but not sure what to expect during the process.

The best brand design process is a collaborative one between you and your designer.

An experienced brand design agency will understand the process of creating a successful brand, and will have many hundreds of logos and brand designs in their portfolio. Taking advantage of their professional experience ensures a quality outcome with less stress - unfortunately (as with most things) you get what you pay for when it comes to branding.

Brand design is a key investment in your success - and it is essential to get it right.

Here is a step-by-step process for when you call the brand agency to have them work on your design.

                        Step 1: The Initial Meeting
During the initial meeting with the brand agency, this is more of an informative gathering where the client and brand agency discuss all the details of the project. These details can include context, background, previous experiences, goals, motivation, and brand positioning. From here, future marketing strategies are discussed to assess whether an ongoing relationship and brand guidelines are needed. Terms of payment are finalized before work commences.

                        Step 2: Briefing and Research
Once the deposit has been received, the brand agency team will gather all the information from the initial meeting and conduct further research into audiences, markets, and competitors. A brief will be put together that includes elements such as - project details, deliverables, project background, tone of voice, anything to be included or excluded from design, positioning, marketing, audience, and deadlines.

                        Step 3: Ideas and Concepts
The brand agency will now begin the process of designing concepts and ideas that answer the brief. The mood boards, or design concepts, will be different from one another and allow discussion as to what is working and what is not. This will enable the team to begin moving more in the right direction of the project. The concepts and ideas will be presented in the context of a finding a creative starting point.

                        Stage 4: The Initial Presentation
The initial presentation between client and brand agency will set the tone for the rest of the project. A discussion will take place as the client sees the designs and concepts for the first time, allowing the team to identify which concepts are going to work best for the overall branding. Whether the client loves the concepts or requests major changes, the goal here is that everyone leaves the presentation with a better understanding of the final result. Having a clear idea how to complete the project is necessary to making it to the next stage and will ensure in the end the client is satisfied.

                        Stage 5: Development of Design
Now that everyone is on the same page, the development of the design becomes more in focus. Once the development reaches a particular point, the design is then emailed to the client for further feedback. Changes will be made to make sure the client is satisfied with the progress and sent back for review again. This process will continue until the final design has been mutually agreed upon and signed off on.

Stage 6: The Delivery of the Design
All of the artwork is handed over to the client in printed version and file formats. The client has complete ownership of all the art files.

When it comes to brand design, now you should have a better idea what should you expect from a professional brand agency. These are just an outline of the common stages, and many can change depending on the unique details and the requirements of the project brief.

Is Squarespace A Good Alternative to WordPress?

                              by Saul Edmonds

An introduction to the pros and cons of Squarespace V Wordpress.

What is freedom? Freedom is the right to choose: the right to create for oneself the alternatives of choice.
                              — Archibald MacLeish (Poet, playwright, essayist, Librarian of Congress, lawyer)

How to choose the best CMS for you

To understand if Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress, you really have to know what these two are all about.

While on the surface they may appear to be similar platforms, they actually have different features that make them unique to one another.

WordPress is more of a content management system, whereas Squarespace is presented as a website builder, although in reality these are 2 sides of the same coin and both can be either a CMS or a website builder. So the short answer to whether Squarespace is a good alternative to WordPress is it really depends on your needs.

The purpose of your website will determine which is a better fit for your business.

Some WordPress options may be better in the short-term than Squarespace and vice versa. The following questions should help you to decide the best fit for your company and how each platform excels in their own way.

What Type of Functionality Will Be Required?

In order to determine whether Squarespace is a better alternative to WordPress, we need to start with the basics.

                              • Start by writing down what type of website you are going to be building.
                              • Next, decide what your website is going to do.
                              • Finally, it is important to know today what you expect from the website in the future.

When you come up with the answers and find that you are going to need more than just a static website, WordPress might be the right fit. However, if you are looking to create a stunning website that is all about drag-and-drop, Squarespace is the answer.

There are many sites that are using Squarespace templates that really are stunning to say the least. These websites are perfect for displaying the menu of your website, your portfolio, or your clothing store inventory to mention just a few.

WordPress on the other hand gives you a little more flexibility to add a huge range of features by simply installing a plugin.

When you clearly understand your precise needs in advance, you can choose the right platform that will give you the perfect website for your needs. That being said, it is also easier if you have clarity about your future needs now, because if you have to switch platforms later it could create added hassle and expense.

How Much Flexibility are You Going to Need?

Again, on the subject of whether Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress, it all comes down to the needs of your business.

If you own a local pizza restaurant and only want to show your customers the latest menu, the Squarespace website is more than enough. However, if you have a website that requires a range of user logins, and complicated functionality, WordPress allows you to incorporate a number of plugins to realise a more custom solution.

As Squarespace is a privately owned company, you must use their service providers - Squarespace is a hosted solution. If you need a simple website without a million features, Squarespace websites rival some of the best online.

By comparison, WordPress is more of an open book, which means if you have a custom need or specific function you want to incorporate, chances are good that there is a free plugin for that. You are also able to use your preferred website hosting provider.

Will You Need to Scale Up Your Website Over Time?

Websites should not be static, they should be maintained and updated frequently, especially if you are always looking for ways to drive new traffic to your site.

It is best to know today what your future plans are for your website because you don't want to get locked into one type of platform and find you are unable to scale things up in the future.

Many people simply assume they need to jump into WordPress because it gives them the flexibility to grow easily over time.

It is important to note here that Squarespace has features that make it more favourable in unique situations.

Perhaps you do live shows on YouTube and at any point could have over 10,000 live viewers, who in turn rush to the website for more information. Squarespace can handle the load with zero issues, whereas the WordPress site might crash from the huge rush of traffic all at once. In this example, Squarespace makes use of huge load balancing servers which can keep that website stored at several locations and point that rush of traffic to the closest server. WordPress sites could freeze up because they need to talk to the database. This is however very dependent on the quality of your web hosting as well.

While this is just one example, both platforms have their good features, again, depending on how you plan to scale things up down the road. So if you intend on only getting traffic when you do a huge live online event, then Squarespace might be a better option. If you are constantly expanding your reach and incorporating new features for your visitors to utilize, Wordpress allows you to keep adding those features with ease.

So now you should have a better idea about whether Squarespace is a better alternative to WordPress - whether your are a global corporation that needs a landing page or a small home-based business that needs more of a fully functional website.  It all comes down to your specific needs, your plans for the future, and what type of user experience you want to give your customers.

HOW TO USE YOUR BRAND STORY TO STAND OUT

                                  by Saul Edmonds

A Practical Guide To Brand Storytelling

And do you know what is the most-often missing ingredient in a sales message? It’s the sales message that doesn’t tell an interesting story. Storytelling . . . good storytelling . . . is a vital component of a marketing campaign.
                                  — Gary Halbert

If there is one key piece of advice I can share - that is - to tell your story.

Be authentic. Be brave. Be honest.

Your brand is an extension of your story. Your customers want to get to know you - your business, products and services - and what you stand for, and where you have come from. It matters to your customers.

                                  Tell them. Share it.

Your story is your most valuable marketing tool.
Use your story to grow your business.

In today’s marketing world, connecting with your prospects in a real way is an integral part of business success. Regardless of your industry, your expertise or your particular strategy, finding ways to create an emotional connection with your audience will make a huge difference when it comes to attracting and retaining customers.

In order to stand out from the crowd and gain a competitive edge in your industry, you have to shift from broadcasting your promise to telling your brand story.

Well-written business and brand stories are very powerful tools for building trust since they are original, emotional, sharable and memorable. The sharing aspect is what enhances brand awareness regarding your business and brings more potential customers to your business.

So, what’s your brand story? If you want to write an 'emotionally intelligent’ brand story, but don’t know how to go about it, read on.

                                  What Is Your Brand Story?

Your brand story is a powerful marketing tool, and the best and most effective brand stories are those that engage with your customers. These are descriptive, conversational and inspirational stories that speak directly to your audience to bind your business, product or service to your audience.

Your brand story is much more than just a narrative or content.

Your brand story is more than content on a website, a message in a leaflet or the presentation you use to pitch to clients or investors. It goes beyond the narrative you tell other people about your business; it includes what others think about your business based upon your brand image; complete with facts, interpretations and emotions.

Everything you do, every aspect of your brand or business, from packaging and selling your products, to the employees your hire is a major part of your story and each element of your brand or business should represent the truth about your business brand.

If you are interested in creating an effective, sustainable business and build brand loyalty, you must begin with your brand's story. But why is your brand's story so important?

                                  Why Have a Brand Story?

Your marketing efforts must connect in an authentic way with your potential buyers. That’s where your brand story comes into play. While a brand story may not be the only reason a shopper buys a product from an online store, it does influence a sale. Therefore, it is extremely important to have a brand story that resonates with your target audience.

The key to building a great brand is to place your brand's story in line with the needs of your customers. Businesses that only tell stories about themselves will end up speaking to themselves. On the other hand, companies that allow customers to be a part of the brand story will end up building trust and developing relationships.

Stop using your website to show ads for your business, instead show your visitors how your brand can help them.

Top brands are built on much more than the specifications and utility of their products or services. Your product or service is just one part of your brand story. A prospective customer’s relationship with your business will most likely start before they actually buy your product for the first time.

How Do You Start To Tell Your Brand's Story?

In order to tell your brand story, you need to understand your business and define the elements that will help you to tell your story effectively. This will enable you to set your brand apart and make emotional connections with your customers and clients.

An effective brand story strategy will ensure you you stand out, boost brand awareness, build customer loyalty and increase your profits.

The world’s top brands are not just about products. No matter what industry or stage you are in your business, you should see your brand story as a key element of your marketing mindset.

Your brand story starts with an emotional connection created when your customer hears your brand name for the first time, visits your website, sees your business logo, views your posts on social media or reads your “about us” page. The message you send should not be just your business and how good you are at it, but also about your values and mission. This will help to create the full picture of you stand for as a business.

More often than not, marketing takes place when you are not there and your customers are telling their friends or relatives about the amazing benefits of your product. Let your customers tell your brand's story for you.

                                  Build Characters That People Admire

In each compelling story, you will find a character that connects with the audience. Perhaps it’s the main character, a minor character or just an onlooker whose ideas, personality or role in the narrative persuades and influences the audience opinion.

It is extremely important to tell a story that your audience will care about.

Helping your customers resonate with your brand is the best way to create an emotional connection and a greater fan base.

Be Consistent with Your Brand Message

Confusion can ruin your brand reputation, so make sure that your story is consistent with your image and promise. If your audience cannot meaningfully relate to your brand story in the context of their expectations and perceptions of your business, they will move on and seek another brand that fulfils their needs.

By creating a compelling and emotionally engaging brand story, you can make your brand more personified and drive authenticity, which helps to create relevance, trust and loyalty. However you tell your brand’s story, be sure to reach out to those who care about your business, your products or services.

Give your audience a story that they can relate to, to build long term customer relationships built upon trust and positivity.

Simple Steps To Develop Your Unique Brand Vision

Behind every successful business is an effective brand.

And every effective brand is built upon the foundation of a strong brand vision.

If you are starting out in business, your brand vision may be something about which you already have clarity - or your brand vision may be a roadmap or work in progress, that you are discovering or refining as you move forward.

Effective branding - and understanding and communicating your unique brand vision to your customers - is critical to ensure you stand apart from your competitors in the marketplace.

But what is a 'brand vision'? - and how do you get it right - for you, your business and your prospects?

Read on for some simple tips of how to develop a comprehensive brand vision that is uniquely your own.

                                  Why is Brand Vision Important?
The ideas behind your brand define you

Getting your brand’s vision right can help you attract more customers and make the selling process easier. A well defined brand can help move your business forward. It can inspire all people involved with your organisation – including you, your employees and your customers.

Brand vision and brand values send personal and emotional signals to potential customers, allowing them to connect with your company and develop loyalty.

For your brand to be successful there must be a clear vision that informs operations.

Not only will this allow employees to understand and appreciate their roles better but when unexpected incidents occur, it enables you to determine effective strategies to negotiate successful outcomes.

Brand vision comprises three key components, namely:

                                  1. Brand Values
                                  2. Brand Future
                                  3. Brand Purpose

                                  Know Your Brand Values
What do you stand for as a business?

What are your values as a brand? Every successful brand represents a set of values.

For a company to be successful there must be a number of shared values behind a brand. Your company should adhere to all the core brand values across all situations.

This ensures your brand is well placed to give meaning to customers and employees. It provides the workers with a common cause, a reason to come to work every day. The brand also motivates the employees and makes them think out of the box.

Identifying your brand’s values will help your customers to engage with your brand and business.

                                  Make The Future Happen
                                  What is Your Brand's Future?

What possibilities does the future hold for your brand? How can you shape your future to manifest your brand's full potential?

For a brand to succeed long term, the management must have a good vision about the future. In other words, the team behind the brand should have a detailed forecast about what its future will look like, for instance in the next 10 years.

It is important to envision what happens next because managers should be encouraged to avoid incremental estimates - and to develop a creative and holistic view about their brand’s future.

By thinking well into the future, your brand should not be overwhelmed by unexpected circumstances. Let your brand adapt accordingly and organically to realise the future you are hoping for.

                                  Think Big
                                  Discover Your Brand Purpose

Your brand’s purpose is much more than just boosting shareholders’ wealth or increasing profits. Instead, ensure your brand's purpose aims high - to include such lofty goals as making the world a better place, and what meaningful role your brand can perform in this respect.

Again, it is important to guide and motivate employees.

Organisations that have a well-defined brand purpose have a huge advantage over those that don’t. This is because they stand for something and will always have something to share, and not just a product to sell.

Purpose-driven companies strive to make the world a better place and always stand for their values. Businesses should work hard to make the difference come to fruition.

                                  Why Have a Brand Vision?
Discover why it is important to get inspired

Your brand vision is the ideas behind your brand that inspire you, your employees and your customers. They give a clear direction to your company.

Defining the values that your organisation will stand for is vital, as these set guidelines about the kind of behaviour that differentiates your company in the marketplace and allows your clients to instantly appreciate the promise of your brand.

A successful brand will always have certain core values as well as peripheral values that allow a brand to reflect and give voice to the changing societal atmospheres.

Successful brands do not just focus on their customers; instead, they are always thinking about their employees as well. It is extremely important to make sure all employees appreciate the brand values, and are dedicated to delivering those values.

Encourage everyone in your company to think about how they will help make the world a better place, and understand the kind of behavior that will allow your brand to achieve its goals.

                                  • How to Create Your Brand's Vision

                                  • What is your vision for your brand?

                                  • What do you stand for - as a person, as a business?

Take the time to understand the messages that you want your brand to communicate.

Start with clarity and purpose. Make a list. Collect images and motivational quotes.

Get excited - your customers will thank you for it. People admire and respect others who are knowledgeable, caring and genuine with regards to their business dealings.

Above all be authentic - and tell your own story.

Creating your brand’s vision is one of the most important steps when it comes to brand management.

Crafting brand vision is a tactical process that requires the input of the brand’s top managers as the vision determines the future of the brand. More often than not, marketers should make critical decisions about the future growth of the company. This is a major challenge since the brand must be expanded to cater to emerging opportunities in the market and also be focused on overcoming the existing challenges.

Poor brand vision can also create the issue of discontinuity for the company’s strategies.

Generally, brand vision statements must be simple, clear and easy to remember.

The staff should be able to memorize the brand vision statements.

When crafting the brand vision, you need to keep the following tips in mind.

Think Big: while creating a brand vision for your company, marketers should have huge plans for the business. The vision should address all issues concerning the end consumer. The vision must motivate both the employees and customers alike.

Encourage Growth: marketers should craft a brand vision that will boost the growth of the business beyond the existing product categories.

Consistency: it is important for your brand vision to be consistent with the corporate strategy. For that reason, the top corporate managers should take part in creating the vision.

Regular Revision: while marketers draft brand vision for the long term, make sure that the vision is revised on a regular basis. These days, brands operate in a changing environment. Your vision should be revised according to the changing environment to ensure it is always relevant for the consumers.

Every business decision you make should be in accordance with your brand vision. Your brand vision needs to replicate the business strategy, stand out from competitors, motivate staff, resonate with consumers and guide your brand to meet its goals.

Are your ready to take your brand to the next level?

3 Simple Ways to Use the Hashtag To Boost Readership

Social media has shaken up the world of sales, with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter offering new ways to hound leads and unprecedented insights into clients.

Easy and Effective Ideas for Marketing With Hashtags

Social media has transformed the marketing landscape in recent years, and if you are not familiar with what the hastag is, today is the day you need to get informed.

The hashtag can be used creatively to tell the unique story of your brand. The hashtag, if used correctly, can work to align your business more closely to your customers.

Here are 3 simple techniques for mastering the power of the hashtag.

                                  Sharing Your History

The popular hashtag #throwbackthursday started when some individuals wanted to reminisce about historical events. The popularity of this one hashtag has grown enormously.

Many smart business owners are taking advantage of that single hashtag to show their customers what their company looked like in the beginning. It is a great way to not only put a face to the business, but to give your audience a little insight into the history of you and your brand.

Give People What They Care About

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make when it comes to using the hashtag is assuming that people know your individual brand.

Note that posting your brand name in a hashtag over and over again will most likely not result in increased traffic. Your audience will generally not get involved in conversations that are solely about your company or brand.

People want to - and will only - talk about what really interests them in a genuine way. While the brand name hashtag has the potential to lay the groundwork for a unique conversation, you should consider connecting with your audience by tapping into popular conversations that they are already engaged in.

If you are actively engaging your audience with popular hashtags, you can make unique variations to popular words and start unique conversations that bring some attention to your business. Using some humour will go a long way to enabling your audience to connect with your brand.

                                  Expressing Your Unique Personality

The hashtag has the power to allow you as a business owner to separate yourself from your competition.

If your industry utilises the same words in hashtags, it can really be a challenge to stand out in the crowd. Your brand is the story that you tell your audience about your business, so look for ways to incorporate your brand message into your hashtags to reach your audience more effectively than others within your industry.

Why not utilise some hashtags that reveal your personality, to reach an audience beyond those who use your products or services? Use hashtags creatively to describe your business and your successes.

Focus on the words that are core to you and your brand message - and proclaim to the world what you are really all about.

                                  ARE HASHTAGS WORKING FOR YOU?

A Guide to Branding Your Small Business

                                  by Saul Edmonds

How to Successfully Brand Your Small Busines

“We have a strategic plan. It’s called doing things” – Herb Kelleher

                                  Thinking Big for Small Business

Just because your business might appear small, that doesn't mean you have to promote yourself as a small business.

The internet gives small businesses the opportunity to brand their business in a way that allows you to compete on a global stage with some of the biggest companies in the industry.

Building a compelling and engaging brand takes time and dedication, to achieve the desired result.

Here are a few tips that can help you to develop your brand successfully.

                                  1. Understanding Your Audience

The brand of your small business has to consist of more than a creatively designed logo to attract potential customers.

Your brand must somehow incorporate a distinct meaning that will help to convey your business core values to the audience.

When you can create a unique relationship with potential customers by way of your branding, you increase the likelihood they will want to interact with your business. The best brands have a way of finding those customers who can benefit the most from the products and services being offered. By marketing to your niche audience - you help to increase the value of your brand.

                                  2. Knowing Your Small Business

Every successful brand design begins with an understand of your core values.

If you can discover the passion behind what drives your company, you can connect much more easily with potential buyers who share those opinions. Connect with your audience by showing them that your team is dedicated to their success, and will use all resources available to help them achieve their goals. That is how you grow your brand and get customers to take notice.

                                  3. Communicating More Effectively

To build a lasting relationship with potential customers, you need to create a positive first impression.

By ensuring that your customers understand how you value responsibility and customer service, you can connect with them effectively for the long term.

Even in the event that your customer has a poor experience with a product or service you offer, if your employees make an effort to not only fix the problem in a timely manner, but communicate to the customer how you are going to fix it so it never happens again, you grow the credibility of your brand.

                                  4. Designing Your Brand

Simplicity always works best when it comes to branding.

The key to branding your small business is to create a brand design that is easy to remember, of simple and elegant design, whilst clearly conveying what your message is.

If your logo can evoke an emotional response from a buyer, you have succeeded. A professional brand design - created within the context of your unique story and business goals - ensures a brand design that will connect with the people who matter most: your customers.

Incorporate a few of these tips into your brand campaigns and you will turn those new customers into loyal customers.

3 Simple Ways to Grow Your Brand With Hashtags

                                  by Saul Edmonds

Learn the Basics of Brand Marketing With Hashtags

If you use it intelligently, Twitter can be a form of engineered serendipity.
                                  Jason Silva

Discover Hashtags and Propel Your Brand Message

Overnight it seems - the hashtag has worked it's way into everyday communication.

Take a look around you next time that you are on the road. Note how many companies are currently using hashtags to promote their services and products.

The hashtag is the popular choice for searches on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. If you are not using hashtags to leverage your brand, you are missing out on a golden opportunity.

Find below 3 easy ways to make use of the power of hashtags to grow your brand:

                                  1. Participating In Industry Events Virtually

What can you do if you are unable to attend an event in your industry?

Perhaps there is a seminar or event that is out of town or out of your budget, and although you wish to attend - you are unable to do so.

If you understand the power of the hashtag you could be attending that seminar right now. The conference or seminar will have a hashtag for the event, so make use of it and you can literally follow along from the comfort of your house.

How is this possible you might be asking? The hashtag for the event is usually shared long in advance of that event by the promoters to garner interest early on.

So if you have access to those hashtags, you now have access to the trends taking place and you can also connect with whomever is speaking at the event.

Begin by searching the main hashtag for the event a few days before the event even starts. Now you have access to the list of speakers for the seminar. On the day of the seminar, simply tune into a live stream of the event and introduce yourself. When you include the hashtag in your posts, the comments that you make will appear on the search results.

Now ask yourself what are your goals? Are you simply posting to expand your network or are you trying to strategically align with industry leaders. Retweet and share your favorite comments for the day to keep your name in the loop longer.

                                  2. Establishing More Credibility

If you are looking for ways to boost your presence online, hashtags are a great way to increase both visibility and credibility.

To do this successfully you need to participate regularly in Twitter chat sessions. From there, you will be able to share some of your expertise and track your online engagement at the same time. These chats usually last about an hour, so be sure to zero in on a specific subject and get involved in the question and answer session at the end. This is where you, the moderator and other participants can reply to each other.

Keep the hashtag for the chat close by to incorporate in your messages. This will help to organise the conversation throughout. Then later on you can search and sort your tweets by these tags. Once you have done this a few times, why not increase your brand and credibility by hosting your own chat sessions on Twitter. Create your own custom hashtag to use for the session. This can help to promote awareness of your brand and allow you the unique opportunity to connect on a one on one level with influencers and consumers.

                                  3. Reaching the Right Audience

If you want to reach a more local audience, make use of geotargeting techniques.

Broader hashtags will reach a global audience, and are great if you simply want to just get a message to the masses. However, when you need that message to reach people in your city, you have to approach things a little differently.

Finding hashtags that target a unique community in your area is straightforward. Search for the hashtags that are in your city, and participate in the conversation to let your local customers know more about you and your brand. Hashtag your content with your location so people understand exactly where you are coming from.

ARE YOUR EXPANDING YOUR REACH WITH HASHTAGS?

At Roundhouse, we understand how effective social media and hashtags can be - at expanding your reach and connecting with your niche customers. If you want to learn more about how to use hashtags to grow your business locally, please call us for an informal chat.

A Simple Guide to Talking to Designers About Your Brand

                                  by Saul Edmonds

How To Communicate More Effectively With Your Graphic Designer

My belief is that communication is the best way to create strong relationships.
                                  Jada Pinkett Smith

Learn The Language of Graphic Designers

When dealing with designers about your brand, sometimes the image you had in your mind and the design that was created are two completely different things.

To ensure this is not the case, take the time to sit down with your designer.  A 'one to one' conversation helps them to fine-tune the design of your brand using information gathered from you.

To assist with clarity and communication, get to know the most common terms within the 'designers language'. Utilising the same language when talking to designers about your brand  will assist in expediting a positive design outcome.

Find a list of frequently used graphic design terms below:

                                  Hierarchy

This word might confuse you at first, but in the simplest terms it means the arrangement of elements and the order of importance within the brand design.

Hierarchy includes such elements such as:

                                  • where an image is placed in relation to typography
                                  • how typography is arranged and integrated
                                  • use of images within the brand

An effective brand is one in which the hierarchy is a carefully orchestrated sequence of visual events.

                                  Scale

Scale is a term used to describe proportional elements within the design.

If you have to scale up your image, it becomes larger, but not necessarily better. If you think the item is too large, tell the designer you want to scale it down a little bit. This will ensure the designer correctly understands your requirements.

                                  Negative Space

The negative space is the empty visual spacing around an image or element.

The negative space offers great creative potential. Ensure that your designer utilises the negative space to resolve your brand in a positive way.

                                  Alignment

The alignment refers to the placement of the text either on a line or within an image.

There are several terms that come along with alignment that can help you to better communicate with your designer. The first is left justified text, this is when the text is moved to the far left of the line or image. Right justified is when the text is aligned to the right of the line or image. Force justified is where the text is pulled all the way to the left and the right so it fits perfectly on the line across the entire image or space designated.

Effective alignment is key to attaining visual balance. If you have specific requirement regarding the layout and alignment of text, let your graphic designer know at the start of your project.

                                  Balance

Balance deals more with the overall design composition.

A well balanced design is one in which the components are as one - arranged in a way that is visually pleasing and satisfactorily resolved. One simple element out of balance can affect the entire design. Finalising your brand design could be a simple case of adjusting elements to achieve more balance.

                                  Tone

The tone simply refers to the quality of the colours within the design.

To become more aware of your colour choices, get to know the colour wheel.

A colour wheel shows the variations within the standard colours and tones. Your designer can fine-tune your colour choices further with either warm or cool variations within your preferred colour palette.

The tone of a specific colour can impact upon your brand statement significantly. If you feel the colours within your brand design are not resolved to your satisfaction, perhaps the tonal range needs further adjustment.

                                  Making Your Vision Into Reality

Now you have a little more insight into the terminology that your designer is using on a daily basis.

By communicating more effectively with your designer - you can actively participate within the design process and be assured of a successful outcome, with fewer revisions.

Good luck with your brand design!
