How To Grow Your Business With Enterprise Apps

sept17-blog_10 Best Practices For Enterprise Mobile App Development.png

When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, businesses of all sizes are finding new ways to take advantage of the technology of the day.

The business world was revolutionized once the computer became a global phenomenon, and now it appears enterprise mobile apps are poised to have the same impact around the world.

These enterprise mobile apps are focused on software that is user-friendly.

These apps are used by employees working in the field, the sales team, maintenance department, and even delivery personnel. These apps are not developed with the customer in mind, they are used to streamline the business, organize tasks, and manage data.

Overloading the team with enterprise mobile apps that have a ton of unnecessary features is not good for business, so better understanding what needs to go into that app can go a long way in the success of your company.

Here are the 10 best practices for enterprise mobile app development success.

1. Detailed Training Program

Throughout the company, there are going to be employees that have different levels of technology literacy.

Expecting the entire work force to instantly understand the enterprise mobile app is too much to be asking. All employees will eventually need to be on board with the software, so creating a detailed training program that will bring everyone up to speed is advised. By keeping close tabs on employees during the training, eventually everyone will absorb the information at their own pace.

2. Minimizing App Sizes

Be sure that the app size is small enough that it is not taking up too much space on the user's device.

When the work force is spending a considerable amount of time of the road, they may be using several other apps to perform work duties. When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, go for streamlined and nimble, focusing on core functions and nothing else.

3. Importance of Branding

The enterprise mobile app must be consistent with the rest of the company brand.

Instead of just offering the team a bare-bones experience, sprinkle in some branding flair without taking up too many of the resources of the device. As the employees get more comfortable with the app and the branding message resonates with them, they help to spread that word in everything they do.

4. What Is Important

It is important to walk a mile in your employee's shoes before the enterprise mobile app development can commence.

When the team is on the road most of the year, if you do not understand what they need in order to perform at a high level while away from the office, the app will never provide the team benefits. Focus on responding to their unique needs, getting in-depth insights to what kind of challenges they face each day.

5. Adaptive Designing

By using more versatile layouts compatible with laptops, tablets, and mobile devices, you can keep the whole team on board.

There really is no telling what platforms work best in certain situations, so the enterprise mobile app development needs to work across all these platforms effortlessly. It is hard to assume which device each employee is more comfortable with, so cross design covers them all.

6. Focused Content

Determine what features are most important to the overall project and focus there.

Leave all the other aspects of the project out of the mix, the last thing you want to do is confuse or distract these employees from the task at hand. If you focus on the content, then the likelihood that users will drift off to social media or other features is less likely because they only have one option in front of them. A clean simple look can often have the biggest positive impact for a business.

7. Iterative Design

The way iterative design works is simple, once the enterprise mobile app development has commenced, updates will be deployed in cyclical patterns.

This helps to allow the development team to get feedback from the users along the way without having to roll out one huge update. The design is never going to be perfect the first time out, so by making use of this technique, in time the overall mobile app will be better in tune with work best for everyone.

8. User Experience

One of the things the enterprise mobile app development team need to address is the user experience.

The ultimate goal of the app creates a workable software that enhances the day of the user at work. Once it becomes a part of their everyday routine, they will be able to work more efficiently. Those apps that are created that are too cumbersome simple are left to their own and never utilized, a waste of valuable resources. When the design team can look at the apps they use each day and draw upon those experiences, the entire project will be a success.

9. The App Protection

Employees will be able to take advantage of data encryption, authentication, and management sensitive information, which keep data protected even when they are in use at multiple remote locations.

It is important to make use of the App Store because as the web becomes larger, your assets must be protected.

10. Smart Sensors

As the technology keeps advancing each year, it is important to stay ahead of the curve and incorporate some IoT technology into the app design.

These employees are already familiar with this technology at home when they order a pizza, lock up their house, or turn on the oven from their mobile device, so look for ways to make their time at work less stressful and more productive.

Things to consider with the enterprise mobile app development is GPS, sound activation, or remote access features.

When it comes to enterprise mobile app development, keep an eye on the needs of the employees and the other on future development. This is plenty of information to help your business to get a good start in the right direction with starting on your own enterprise app, so take advantage and get working on that implementation today!

5 Top Reasons Why Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones

    by Saul Edmonds

Why Are Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones?

sept17-blog_5 Top Reasons Why Google Apps Are Not Available For Windows Phones.png

"There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why." ―William Barclay

The question concerning why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones can not be answered in one sentence.

This appears to be one of those complicated relationships that only the two parties involved really understand what the core issue could be. For those of us looking in from the outside, we can speculate and assume, but that is all we really have to go by.

Taking a look from an impartial point of view, we look more closely at the 5 top reasons why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones. (Just like any relationship, the deeper we look, the more obvious the problem appears.)

    1. Ending a Relationship

Google and Microsoft definitely have an interesting relationship to say the least.

Even though these two companies would love to break free of one another, they need each other to a small extent.

Google has developed Google Docs to try and replace Microsoft Office, so then Microsoft developed Bing to replace Google Search. The fact is they still need each other because Google Chrome runs best on Microsoft Windows, and then Microsoft needs Google Apps to try and entice new users to come on board.

That being said, Windows Phones is the one hurting the most from this relationship. As of today, there is only one Google app available in the Windows App Store, and it was last updated years ago. Google Apps is getting more bang for their buck at the Apple Store, so they have not even considered expansion.

    2. No Respect for the Windows Phone

It is really clear by the amount of Google Apps in the Windows Phone App Store that they have little or no respect for this platform.

The biggest reason why the apps are not available at this time has to simply do with market share. Look at it from the perspective of the marketing giant Google. They currently share about 70% of the market with their Android, compared to a measly 8% that the Windows Phone holds.

That is not enticing enough for Google to want to play in that game.

Microsoft just is not grabbing the market by storm, so in the eyes of Google, there really is no fire that needs their attention at this time.

    3. The Windows Phone Isn't Google-Friendly

If you strip away all the theories about why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones, you can not get away from the fact that Google is in competition with Apple and Microsoft.

Looking at the amount of apps in the Windows Store, Google doesn't feel the urge to push the issue.

Now the same can be said a few years ago when Google had basically nothing in the Apple App Store. Then something happened, Apple popularity exploded. When Apple all of a sudden became a threat to Google, all of a sudden you begin to see an abundance of Google apps showing up in the Apple App Store.

Once they realized Apple was becoming too popular, they decided that they needed to be in that space. Market shares play a huge role, and right now Google just doesn't feel like they need to be worried about Microsoft.

Looking deeper, when the iPhone was released, it came installed with Google Maps, Google Search YouTube, and a Mail app.

When the Windows Phone was released, it came with Bing Maps, SkyDrive, Bing Search, no ability to make 3rd-party browsers Google-friendly
    .

Even if Google did release YouTube or Hangouts to the Windows App Store, those users are going to be making use of Bing Search and IE, so there is zero benefit or incentive to make the effort.

Google also knows that even though people want to try these Windows Phones, they won't without certain apps. Even though people would consider the phones, Google is holding the cards right now and isn't budging.

    4. Windows Phones are Dangerous

Another reason why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones, Google sees them as a threat.

Google feels that the relationship they have with Apple is not threatening at all, they are not worried in the least that users are going to ditch because Google feels Apple does not have many services that will conflict with theirs.

On the other hand, Microsoft is a much bigger threat because they have Office, Bing Search, Skype, and Outlook. If Google loses a user to the Windows Phone, Google stands to lose more than they want to consider. Google doesn't want to give Microsoft any attention or the users may start doing the same.

    5. Windows Phone Issues

Perhaps the biggest reason that Google is not going to play nice with Microsoft is that Google simply has a major problem with the Windows platform in general.

The best way to explain this issue is that Microsoft offers users alternatives to many of the services that are already being provided by Google. Google feels that once a person tries the phone, they may start to get more comfortable with Bing or Skype, and rely less on all the services that Google offers.

Right now, by limiting the apps from showing up in the Windows App Store, Google feels that little to none of their users will be jumping ship anytime soon to be the first to experiment on the other platform.

These are 5 of the reasons why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones. Google does not feel like they have to be worried about the competition as long as they are taking care of things on their home front. If Google can keep the user happy on their platform, they know the user is less likely to be looking for another.

The only thing that could change this relationship is if Microsoft becomes like Apple, a huge threat, and if that occurs, Google will certainly do whatever it takes to stay in front of their captive audience. For now, Google is not worried.

Best Mobile UI/UX Design Practices & 6 Common Pitfalls to Avoid

      by Saul Edmonds

A Simple Guide To The Best Mobile UI/UX Design Practices

      sept17-blog_Best Mobile UI-UX Design Practices & 6 Common Pitfalls to Avoid.png

"The methodologies and best practices used to develop software can be applied successfully to any challenge in life." ―Walter O'Brien

      Designed For The User

In order to create the best mobile apps as far as functionality, you have to be focusing design efforts on the user experience (UX) and intuitive products (UI).

Where many mobile app developers miss the mark is that they focus so much effort of positive UI/UX design practices, they never give attention to pitfalls that need to be avoided.

The following information will give you a good idea on the best UI/UX design practices and common pitfalls to avoid.

      The Best UI/UX Design Practices

The days of having a user manual within reach are over, everyone expects that intuitive products are available.

The target user needs to have a complete understanding of the effects and behaviour of the mobile app without bringing experimentation, memorization, or reason into the mix.

The focus must be a streamlined user experience that allows them to utilise the best features of your app (easily).

      Ensure Consistency Above All

In order for intuitive products to work, there must be consistency within. This consistency is even more important that the visual appeal of the app

Ideally, the user will intuit how to to use the app from prior experience. The learning curve here is virtually going to be flat, this is all about giving the users exactly what they already expect from the app without reinventing the wheel.

      The User Experience is Paramount

One of the best ways to enhance the overall user experience is to stop designing the mobile app like a programmer would. Instead of just dropping features into the app, come from the point of view of the end-user instead.

When you come from the mindset of the user instead of the programmer, amazing things will happen.

The focus here needs to be on the goals of the user. Requirements and features are not as important today for the user as their needs. It doesn't matter how many functions and different sounds your alarm clock app has, it the user can not set the alarm quickly or make changes instantly, they will find an app that will.

Bottom line is that the app must address the needs of the user, not packed to the brim with features.

      Build Apps For Success

When you connect the user with a mobile app that not only addresses but solves their needs, your mobile app will be a success every time.

Take a look at the user experience from their point of view.

Most users dislike repetition - such as having to click a dozen times to perform one task.  For example, ff the user is about to fall asleep and wants to set their alarm for an hour later but it takes 12 clicks to do so, you lose them.

This is common sense but often lost in development.

Some mobile app designers feel the need to show off their skills by making simple tasks complicated.

If the task can be performed in one click, then make it one click and move on to other areas. When you can reduce the clicks to get to the desired results, the users will be more likely to make use of the apps.

6 Commonsense UI/UX Design Pitfalls to Avoid

      1. When you are ignoring human interface guidelines (HIG), your mobile app is doomed to fail. This should be the main focus of your design efforts.

      2. If you are making the tap regions too small, users are going to have a difficult time performing tasks and grow increasingly frustrated with the performance of the mobile app. Remember that everyone has different size fingers.

      3. Stop trying to cram so much into one space. If there is more than a single thing to do on that screen, it will become a problem. That may work on a laptop, but mobile is going to become a real issue.

      4. Never assume that the user is going to completely understand multi-finger gestures. Users know how to pinch, tap, and swipe, but when these gestures need to be combined to perform a task, you could lose a huge part of the audience.

      5. The biggest UX pitfall to avoid is slow responding features. When a user drags or taps something, it needs to move immediately. The key to avoiding this pitfall is responsiveness, responsiveness, responsiveness!

      6. Make sure that the navigation on the app is clear. If the user can not get around easily, they will not be using the app very long.

Just know that when it comes to UI/UX design practices, you are not going to hit it out of the park on the first attempt.

By paying close attention to user feedback, you can sculpt the app so that it focuses more on the goals of the user as if they designed it themselves. Learn from the mistakes along the way and just keep making small adjustments until you get rave reviews across multiple platforms.

What Are The Top HTML 5 Frameworks for Mobile App Development?

        by Saul Edmonds

A Guide To The Top HTML 5 Frameworks

sept17-blog_What Are The Top HTML 5 Frameworks for Mobile App Development-.png

"High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation." ―Charles Kettering

The Ongoing Popularity of the HTML 5 Framework

With all the latest advancements in mobile app development over the last few years, the task of creating compelling mobile applications is easier than ever.

These creative frameworks have identified the issues of the past and now make it easy for the developer to focus on building robust and user friendly applications that function with less glitches.

The popularity of the HTML 5 framework can not be understated, it has grown to the point that developers expect only great things when they make use of the platform.

A Smoother Process + Better Result

The HTML 5 framework is designed to add enhancements to an existing interface while helping to further boost the usability of the apps.

In short, the right HTML 5 framework will help to ensure a smoother app development process for all involved.

As the push continues each year to stay ahead of the curve, a number of HTML 5 frameworks for mobile app development have risen to the top in this industry. The UI framework is nothing more than a set of concepts and codes that help to simplify common issues.

In laymen terms, the UI framework are a set of unique libraries that will allow the mobile app developers to build more efficient applications for their customers. These libraries are comprised of JavaScript and CSS files, used in collaboration with the HTML files. As far as the mobile app development, this framework is described to be a package of standardized codes that include CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.

So without further ado, these are the top HTML 5 frameworks that are efficient for mobile app development.

        1. The Ionic Framework

The Ionic framework is considered to be a hybrid mobile app development tool that has a large dependency on the HTML 5 technology.

This is an open source, complete with a front end SDK that can be extremely powerful and will enable the developers to design unique applications that do not comprise any of the quality of the app.

The Ionic library is literally packed with web components, gestures, and tons of resourceful tools that will help to make the design process easier. The Ionic framework is also efficient at producing both intriguing and interactive apps. In addition to this being a very popular framework for mobile app development, it can be especially helpful for the developers who want to make use of the app testing process.

        2. The Sencha Touch Framework

The Sencha Touch framework is a very popular HTML 5 mobile app development system because it utilizes the MVC (Model View Controller) to help the developer to be able to create unique hybrid applications.

The framework takes all the guesswork out of this complicated process, allowing the team to function on functionality. When developers make use of the Sencha Touch framework, there will be an ease in coding on various mobile OS systems without having to alter the feel or the look of the app.

This framework can easily build any replica of an existing app when it is collaborated with phone gap. This is a commercial venture that comes with dense technical support, tools, and documentation

        3. The Adobe Top Coat Framework

The Adobe Top Coat framework stands on reputation alone as one of the top mobile app developer tools.

When you hear the name Adobe, you know that extensive work behind the scenes has gone into the development. The Adobe Top Coat framework is an incredible HTML UI platform that has many enriching features that allow the developer to create mobile apps for free.

This framework does rely on the CSS more so than the JavaScript, allowing it to provide more control for the developers.

The Adobe Top Coat framework does have a substantial edge over many of the other frameworks as far as appearance and speed for desktop browsers that make use of style sheets or touch target controls. Mobile app developers are able to create creative applications that have a certain flair unlike any others.

        4. The Kendo UI Framework

Another very popular framework that utilizes the HTML 5 is Kendo UI. This is the perfect mobile app developers tool for creating some really stunning out-of-the-box designs that have their own unique functionality.

Basically you can get working quickly and have a stunning design in half the time with this framwork. The Kendo UI is dependent on the jQuery powered UI widgets, but that makes the end result so compelling.

This particular framework has a large number of built-in themes that the developer can make use of when creating applications.

The Kendo UI has a theme builder that allows the developer to alter the look of any mobile app on the go. This framework does integrate well with AngularJs and Bootstrap Loader.

        5. jQuery Mobile

When it comes to jQuery Mobile, it is by far the most commonly used of all the HTML 5 frameworks.

The reason for the popularity with developers is because the jQuery Mobile is considered to be a minimalist framework. One of the reasons for the attraction to this framework is because it does provide the developer a variety of mobile user interfaces.

These interfaces are key in helping to replicate the usability and the appeal of a true desktop site. The jQuery Mobile framework is programmed with the HTML 5 elements like CSS and JavaScript.

Part of the overall appeal of the jQuery Mobile is that this framework helps to build touch-optimized apps that are responsive and run smoothly across a number of platforms on a variety of devices.

        The Next Step

Now you should have a better idea of the top HTML 5 frameworks and how they are helping mobile app developers to create stunning applications that end-users are loving.

All of these frameworks have their own unique benefits, so you need to carefully choose one that better suits your developing needs the most. By looking at the benefits of each there should be no trouble finding one that perfectly aligns with your needs when it comes to developing mobile apps.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.
              — Author Unknown

Take control of your mobile future

Whilst the future may be unknown - there is certainty in the power of mobile technology and innovation to drive growth.

Take a look at mobile phone sales over the past few years and it is clear that the explosion in technology has been a boom for mobile development.

Each year, phones get cheaper, faster, and more powerful, as well as the number of users growing into the billions. At the end of 2017, there were already more than 10 billion mobile devices accessing the internet, and that number is only going to keep growing.

              Stay Ahead of the Curve

In order to stay ahead of the curve, you need to understand today what is the future of mobile development for business.

              A Cross Platform Future

The days of single platform mobile apps are long gone, and the future appears to be heading towards the cross device and cross platform development.

Android will always be the cheaper option and dominate as far as sales, iOS is going to dominate the higher end market, so it only stands to reason that in the near future these two will merge somehow.

As HTML5 begins to grow in popularity, the future will be packed with hybrid applications that are going to work across a number of platforms. What appears to be challenging for developers today, will become easier and more in demand, so better to get a start today planning for the eventual evolution of the mobile app platforms.

              The Internet of Tomorrow

One of the more exciting changes that will be taking over the mobile development world in the near future is the IoT technology.

The IoT (Internet of Tomorrow) technology is already making waves today, mainly in Apple Watches and Google Glass, and things are going to get even more impressive.

The idea of self-driving cars is going to be more evident in the near future, and the ability of the internet to be able to make our lives easier is going to be like science fiction in real life. Mobile applications in the future will be cooking our meals, planning our days, paying our bills, and controlling our home security. It is just a matter of time before this is the norm instead of the rare exceptions.

The Fast Pace of Evolving Technology

With more mobile phones hitting the market each year and more users year to year, the pressure for developers to produce new apps in a timely manner without errors will be a top priority. Software kits will become more advanced too as online app developing programs will have to keep up with the curve too.

              Stay Competitive

At the pace technology will be advancing, you had better get with the program today or you risk falling so far behind that you will be unable to bridge that gap when you have to get your app developed in a competitive niche.

Although the focus today is on customer apps, in the very near future we are going to see a shift in the landscape as enterprise apps start getting more attention. Those needing enterprise apps will be willing to put out large sums of money to acquire target audiences.

These enterprises seek to be ahead of the pack - utilising mobile apps and innovation to grow their bottom line and client base.

Location Based Services Will Continue To Grow

One of the key trends in mobile development will be the advancement of location-based services.

Today we are starting to see these applications gaining popularity, from ordering a taxi or a pizza with the mobile device, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

In the very near future, location-based services are going to become more common for the average person. In a very short period of time, a person will be able to search for an electrician, repairman, mechanic, painter, insurance agent, or mortgage broker, and the app will find a qualified local company in seconds and schedule the appointment. The average homeowner will be able to order any type of service for their home on their mobile device in seconds.

              The Reigning Cloud Power

The power of the cloud is already making waves these days as more businesses are utilizing the space to share content with staff away from the office.

Although the technology allows people in different parts of the world to share the same content in seconds, this is nothing compared to what will be coming down the pike in cloud computing.

Mobile phones are becoming faster, and more powerful, and that means that the storage space in the phone is going to be pushed to its limits.

Instead of pictures and videos slowing down the functions of the phone, cloud based apps allow users to access a huge amount of apps without compromising the speed of the mobile phone. Cloud storage also helps users to sync and then access their database from anywhere with zero risk of data corruption.

This mobile app development trend is only going to continue to grow in the near future.

              The Need For Protection

As the technology continues to advance at break-neck speeds, and more people are feeling comfortable about using their mobile devices to do everything, so does the threats of hackers accessing user information.

It wasn't too many years ago where most people would not expose their credit card information readily over their mobile device, yet today those same people are paying for gas, food, and services with apps on their phones that store their banking information. With the smartphone becoming more important to people each year, so does our dependence on them for accessing our bank information or other private data.

This means the need for security based apps will only be in more demand.

              A Plan for Change

Now you should have a better understanding about what is the future of mobile development for business and how you can plan accordingly to stay ahead of the curve. It is easier to make changes in advance than it is doing anything in reaction.

Take a proactive approach to your mobile development today to plan for tomorrow.

3 Keys To Effective Brand Storytelling

              by Saul Edmonds

How To Build Your Business With Storytelling

sept17-blog_3 Keys To Effective Brand Storytelling.png

“The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon.” ―Brandon Sanderson

              Tell Your Story

To better understand what is brand storytelling, you have to start thinking differently about your marketing than you have in the past.

With brand storytelling, it is all about the customer, although many get confused here and think this has to be all about the business.

If you get this wrong, the story is not going to connect with your audience like it would if the story made them the center of focus. On the surface, your business might not be telling a clear linear story, but if you created the story of your brand correctly, it will influence customer interactions, marketing messages, and your site's copy.

              Your Customer Is The Focus

The bottom line is this, you are not the centre of focus in your brand story, the customer is.

Once you understand this concept the rest of the pieces will fall into place and your marketing communications will transform. Look at it this way, your customer has a need, that is why they came to your website in the first place.

The job of your brand is to use the right tools to guide them to achieve their goals, not yours.

Now that you better understand what brand storytelling is about, we have to focus on learning how to tell that story.

When done correctly, you take selling services and products and put them secondary to creating stories that engage your audience. The stories need to be carefully crafted, curated, and then distributed to your audience.

Here are 3 ways to effectively tell the story of your brand and keeping the focus on the customer.

              1. Reinforcing Your Brand's Purpose or Mission

Rather than promoting your low prices, your fast shipping, or the fact that you have been in business for so many years, your story needs to focus on the needs of the customers.

Although you sell specific items, all your customers have different needs and reasons for shopping at your store. Some customers are not concerned about price, others do not care how long you have been in business, but they all have certain needs.

If you can make the customer feel value through your brand - you have successfully engaged them.

So to do this effectively and to cover all your customers, your brand storytelling needs to reinforce the needs being met of your customers.

Your brand should focus on showcasing high quality merchandise that will last, so the customer is not shopping again for the same items in a few months because the materials are inferior.

Focus on how the customer is going to feel before, during, and after the purchase. Make the shopping experience personal for them, let them know every step of the way their business is valued. Having exceptional customer service is an asset here, like having a live chat feature so customers can speak to a live person to get immediate answers during their shopping experience.

The mission of your company needs to be on making the customer feel valued each step of the way.

              2. Highlighting Your Brand's Values

One of the ways to expand upon brand storytelling is to highlight your brand's values.

When your values are providing a unique shopping experience for the customer, then you have to make changes to reflect that.

For example, a customer comes to your store to buy a shirt, but they are not sure which color or style to buy. It is one thing to have a live operator help with the questions, but that does not help the buyer imagine what the outfit is going to look like on them or with other pieces. The solution in this instance could be an interactive program that allows the user to take different pieces in the store and mix with others to see in real-time what the outfit looks like.

Many eyeglass retailers have already jumped on this feature, creating a program that allows the user to upload their face, and then as they choose glasses from the store it is placed in real-time on their face. This not only allows the customer to see what the glasses look like on their face, it is part of the brand storytelling that instills confidence in the buyer that this company really cares.

These implementations in your web design are part of your brand, but they put the customer front and centre.

              3. Engaging Specific Customers or Groups

Now when it comes to brand storytelling, the above examples were designed to improve the shopping experience for all customers.

Now we have to fine-tune the process so that you are engaging specific groups or customers. The way that you do this without isolating other buyers is try to incorporate as many groups into one process. Chances are if you do this correctly, most people will fall into one or more of the groups, so they don't feel like you are leaving them out. So again we target the clothing retail outlets online for our example, and here you want to try and target certain groups of buyers.

The way you do it on the inside is create tags for each piece of apparel, youth, adult, toddle, men's, women's, XS, XXXL, long sleeve, etc. Now when the buyers arrive at the store, rather than leave them on their own to make their way through all the inventory, the website greets them and asks for a few pieces of information to personalize their shopping experience. Once they enter youth, female, XS, the website will present links to those items so the buyers can shop like the store rearranged everything just for them.

              Your Customer Is The Hero

The goal of brand storytelling is to provide authentic value to the customer that keeps them coming back over and over.

The customer must feel like you are rolling out the red carpet each time they come to your website, so your brand story needs to connect with providing them a unique shopping experience that is all about them.

Your customers are growing tired of sales banner ads, flash videos, and commercials. Your customers want that meaningful connection, providing them a unique shopping experience.

With brand storytelling, make the customer the hero of the story, then over-deliver with the experience.

Is Squarespace A Good Alternative to WordPress?

                    by Saul Edmonds

Squarespace Vs WordPress - Which is the best choice for your business?

"The choices that we make in our life, indeed determine the kind of results that we experience and the quality of the life that we live." ―Sumeet Jain

To better understand if Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress, you really have to know what these two are all about.

While on the surface they may appear to be similar platforms, they actually have different features that make them quite unique to one another.

WordPress is more of a content management system, whereas Squarespace is a website builder. Once you tear into both, the dashboards might feel similar because they both use the WSIWYG editors, and they both require you log into the online dashboard via your browser.

So the short answer to whether Squarespace is a good alternative to WordPress is it really depends on your needs.

The purpose of your website will determine which is a better fit for your business, because some WordPress options may be better in the short-term than Squarespace and vice versa.

The following questions should help you to decide the best fit for your company and how each excels in their own way.

                    • What Type of Functionality Will Be Required?

So in order to determine whether Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress, we need to start with the basics.

Start by writing down what type of website you are going to be building. Next, decide what your website is going to do. Finally, it is important to know today what you expect from the website in the future.

When you come up with the answers and find that you are going to need more than just a static website, WordPress might be the right fit. However, if you are looking to create a stunning website that is all about drag-and-drop, Squarespace is the answer.

There are a number of HTML-based sites that are using Squarespace templates that really are stunning, to say the least. These websites are perfect for displaying the menu of your website, your portfolio, or your clothing store inventory.

WordPress on the other hand gives you a little more flexibility to add a number of features by simply installing a plugin. When you find the needs in advance, you can choose the right platform that will give you the perfect website for your needs, not based on social popularity. That being said, it is also easier to determins you future needs now, because if you have to switch platforms later it could create a real mess.

                    • How Much Flexibility are You Going to Need?

Again, on the subject of whether Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress, it all comes down to the needs of your business.

When you own a local pizza restaurant and only want to show your customers the latest menu, the Squarespace website is more than enough.

However, if you have a website that teaches others how to rank their websites on Google, WordPress allows you to incorporate a number of plugins to build the exact website you need. Because Squarespace is a privately owned company, you must use their providers. This means that their platform is isolated so only their own in-house development team will produce tools for users.

By comparison, WordPress is more of an open book, which means if you have a need or function you want to incorporate, chances are good that there is a free plugin for that. If you need a simple website without a million features, Squarespace providers could setup your website in a way that rivals some of the best online.

                    • Will You Need to Scale Up Your Website Over Time?

The majority of websites are not typically static, they are maintained and updated frequently, especially if you are always looking for ways to drive new traffic to your site.

It is best to know today what your future plans are for your website because you don't want to get locked into one type of platform and find you are unable to scale things up in the future.

Many people simply assume they need to jump into WordPress because it gives them the flexibility to grow easily over time, basically click a button and you have new theme instantly. It is important to note that Squarespace has features that make it more favorable in unique situations. Perhaps you do live shows on YouTube and at any point could have over 10,000 live viewers, who in turn rush to the website for more information.

Squarespace can handle the load with zero issues, whereas the WordPress site might crash from the huge rush of traffic all at once. In this example, Squarespace makes use of huge load balancing servers which can keep that website stored at several locations and point that rush of traffic to the closest server.

WordPress sites would freeze up because they need to talk to the database. While this is just one example, both platforms have their good features, again, depending on how you plan to scale things up down the road.

So if you intend on only getting traffic when you do a huge live online event, then Squarespace might be a better option. If you are constantly expanding your reach and incorporating new features for your visitors to utilize, Wordpress allows you to keep adding those features with the click of a mouse.

                    • Choose Your Platform To Suit Your Needs

So now you should have a better idea about whether Squarespace is a better alternative that WordPress.

By now you know who the website is being built for, if they are tech savvy, and whether it is a global corporation that needs a landing page or a small home-based business that needs more of a fully functional website. When you visit the Squarespace website, you will instantly be able to tell that they cater to a completely different audience that would be making use of the WordPress platform.

That all being said, it doesn't matter how many global companies that you recognize are using Squarespace, they may be only using the platform as a secondary site for specific needs. The same can be said for WordPress, it all comes down to your specific needs, your plans for the future, and what type of user experience you want to give

"The future is not an inheritance, it is an opportunity and an obligation." ―Bill Clinton

                          The Mobile Boom

Take a look at mobile phone sales over the past few years and it is clear that the explosion in technology has been a boom for mobile development.

Each year, phones get cheaper, faster, and more powerful, as well as the number of users growing into the billions.

At the end of the year 2016, there were already 10 billion mobile devices accessing the internet, and that number is only going to keep growing.

In order to stay ahead of the curve, you need to understand today what is the future of mobile development for business.

                          A Cross Platform Future

The days of single platform mobile apps is long gone, and the future appears to be heading towards cross device and cross platform development.

                          IoT technology

One of the more exciting changes that will be taking over the mobile development world in the near future ins the IoT technology.

                          Innovative App Development is Key

With more mobile phones hitting the market each year and more users year to year, the pressure for developers to produce new apps in a timely manner without errors will be a top priority.

Software kits will become more advanced too as online app developing programs will have to keep up with the curve too.

At the pace technology will be advancing, you had better get with the program today or you risk falling so far behind that you will be unable to bridge that gap when you have to get your app developed in a competitive niche.

The best thing to do is to arm yourself today by studying what is working and shaping applications to be able to be streamlined for the future.

                          Enterprise App Solutions

Although the focus today is on customer apps, in the very near future we are going to see a shift in the landscape as enterprise apps start getting more attention.

Those needing enterprise apps will be more willing to put out large sums of money so they can acquire the customers they want and need.

These enterprises are also eager to get more up-to-date quickly, so they will be doing so by way of the mobile apps to continue to grow their bottom line.

If you are not gearing your business towards enterprise apps in the future, then the competition will be making even more money on these very powerful customers.

                          Location Based Services

One of the hottest trends in mobile development will be the advancement of location-based services.

                          Cloud Power

The power of the cloud is already making waves these days as more businesses are utilizing the space to share content with staff away from the office.

Although the technology allows people in different parts of the world to share the same content in seconds, this is nothing compared to what will be coming down the pike in cloud computing.

Mobile phones are becoming faster and more powerful, and that means that the storage space in the phone is going to be pushed to its limits.

                          Mobile Security

As the technology continues to advance at break-neck speeds, and more people are feeling comfortable about using their mobile devices to do everything, so does the threats of hackers accessing user information.

It wasn't too many years ago where most people would not expose their credit card information readily over their mobile device, yet today those same people are paying for gas, food, and services with apps on their phones that store their banking information.

With the smartphone becoming more important to people each year, so does our dependence on them for accessing our bank information or other private data.

This means the need for security based apps will only be in more demand.

                          A Plan For Tomorrow

Now you should have a better understanding about what is the future of mobile development for business and how you can plan accordingly to stay ahead of the curve. It is easier to make changes in advance than it is doing anything in reaction.

Take a proactive approach to your mobile development today to plan for tomorrow.

sept17-blog_App Marketing For Startups - 8 Ways To Generate More Downloads On A Budget.png

“Don't tell me what you value, show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value.”― Joe Biden

                                Market Smart From The Start

You just build what you think is the best app in your niche, and it has been approved in the app store for a few days. Why do you have so little downloads?

Developing your app was only half the battle.

Now you need to get working on a plan to generate more downloads on a budget.

Even after a few weeks, if you only see a few downloads and no reviews, it is time to grab hold of the reigns and start creating your own buzz so the downloads increase steadily.

Forget about posting the link to your app on your Facebook profile, it is time to reach a global audience of targeted traffic that want what you are selling. Don't get discouraged if your budget is non-existent either, help is on the way.

Here are some app marketing for startups tips on how to generate more downloads on a budget.

                                1. Think Globally

Unless you are only targeting one specific country to sell your app, time to reach a global audience.

The description that you have for the app needs to be translated so it reads perfectly in Chinese, Spanish, Korean, or French. There are plenty of sites like Fiverr.com that will translate the whole description for $5, or you can take a chance with Google Translate and do it yourself.

                                2. Use Your App Description Strategically To Target Your Audience

That description you are using in the App Store to attract users needs to be a work of art.

It must contain a variety of at least a half-dozen long-tail keywords for your niche. Never cram the keywords in the description hoping to game the system or you risk getting dropped in the ranking altogether.

The description needs to read perfectly, with those keywords sprinkled in a few times. Use lateral keywords to reach those who don't search using the term you think is popular, just make sure to keep everything balanced.

                                3. Tell The Story Of Your App With Screenshots

Don't just tell your potential audience about how amazing your app is, show them.

To do this, simply take as many high-quality screenshots as you can, then add them to the description field so users can see exactly what they are going to get i they download your app.

These screenshots can not be hastily done either, fuzzy, out of focus, and dark screenshots tell the story that you did not take the time to present the app in the best light, how much real effort dd you take in designing the app? Hi-res picture of someone actually using the app can go a long way too, it plants the seed in the users head that the app is popular.

If required, use a professional design agency to produce high quality screen shots that will be a positive asset in your campaign.

                                4. Use The Power of Youtube

YouTube is by far one of the most popular websites, and for good reason. Traffic to this video giant is off the charts, so this is where you need to be focusing your efforts next.

Take those amazing screenshots that you made and use a video production software with a little background music to create a compelling video that gets people excited.

In addition to adding text to the video, be sure you create a nice long description filled with those long-tail and lateral keywords you used in the App Store description. With millions of viewers on YouTube each day, once you create a buzz, sharing could explode your downloads in short order.

                                5. Think Freely

If your app isn't already free, now is the time to create a limited offer on a free download.

Get some buzz going about the free offer on as many social platforms as possible. The workers at Fiver.com will even bookmark your message on hundreds of bookmarking sites so you can reach a global audience in short order.

Be on the lookout for apps like AppGratis, they promote discounted apps to users who are always on the lookout for app deals.

There are numerous deal sites only that welcome free offers they can promote to their followers.

                                6. App Marketing With Press Releases

Don't think that press releases are no longer effective because the internet has moved in other directions.

If professionally written, a press release can really attract an audience looking for apps like yours.

Once the press release is written, submit it to PRWeb or MarketWired, and watch how your traffic numbers explode. There are plenty of medium-sized blogs out there that will welcome the chance to place a high-quality press release on their website.

Don't keep circulating the same press release to all these sites, write it over and make it compelling each time so the sites using it will feel they have the jump on the story.

                                7. Use Twitter To Build Buzz

If you don't have a Twitter profile geared around your niche, now is the time to develop one.

Make sure the logo matches the icon you use on the App Store for consistency, then follow others in your niche, and then follow their followers.

Start posting about your app in between generic posts about your niche, and then retweet or share posts by those you follow. Eventually they will share your posts, and it could get some real traction overnight where millions get to see the app in real-time and help boost your downloads.

                                8. Gain Traction Via Blogging

There are sites like Blogger.com where you can set up a free blog in seconds. These sites get great ranking, especially on Google.

Create a blog and make a daily post about the benefits of your niche, your app, the reason your app is so popular, similar apps, your category in the App Store, anything to get some long-tail keywords pointing to your app purchase.

These blogs are a great way to get a following too, people who will sign-up for a free newsletter that you produce that has links to the app as well.

How To Boost Your App Sales with ASO

sept17-blog_An Introduction to ASO (App Store Optimization).png

“It’s much easier to double your business by doubling your conversion rate than by doubling your traffic.” ―Jeff Eisenberg

                                      Improve App Visibility

App store optimization (ASO) is the process by which you improve the visibility of your mobile app within the App Store. With millions of new downloads available each year, it can be easy to get lost, especially if your app falls into one of the more popular categories.

The higher you can get your app placed in the App Store, the better chance you get a steady stream of downloads, that is the short and sweet version of the process. That being said, even the experts will tell you that app store optimization is a very tough process if you do not have a plan in place.

The following guide should help you to boost your app sales with app store optimization.

                                      • Your App's Title & Description Are Key

If you did nothing else in your efforts to make app store optimization work for you, it is imperative you begin to focus on the title and description of your app.

When you have a unique app name and simply use it as the title, how can you expect anyone to find it? If they have never heard of the app before, they will never even consider searching for that term. That being said, if you have done your homework and know several long-tail keywords for your niche, you can sprinkle them in the title and descriptions to get you a huge boost of traffic.

It is more likely a visitor to the App Store will search "navigational system" than they will "Bob's Traffic Eliminator". If that was the name of your app, adding the long-tail keyword to the title and placing several of them in the description will get you a nice boost.

                                      • Include Your App's Features In The Description

One of the easiest ways to get more consumers to open your app is to make your audience believe they need your app. When your app is providing a service, you need to create that buzz that this app has actually helped many people. Let your audience know how they will benefit from downloading it.

Place all the positive features in the description, and stand behind your work.

If you can convince your audience in the description that your app is something they should not be without, then you will have an easier time getting them to hit the download button and taking you up on that offer.

                                      • Be Iconic

One of the ways that many users search through the App Store is by the icons. In fact, if there are hundreds of apps in your niche and a person is finger scrolling down the list, if your icon does not grab their attention, they scroll right on by.

Consider the icon to be like your business card, and you only have one chance at that first impression.

The design should be simple and yet tell the story of what your app is all about. That balance can be challenging, but you will know when you strike gold.

                                      • Use Quality Screenshots

Within the app description, you simply must have several screen shots to let the user know what they can be in for.

If the screenshots are high-quality and really give the user the chance to get a feel for the inner-workings of the app, users are more likely to press the download button.

                                      • The Power of Social

Make sure that you utilise social share buttons within the app.

Even if a user does not want to download, they may know a close friend who would.

The share buttons go out like a referral from a friend, and can help to give you a better placement in the App Store if enough people are sharing the content.

When it comes to app store optimization, just because you only use Facebook does not mean everyone does. Google + has been steadily growing in popularity and will even get you ranked on some pages for relevant keywords too.

                                      • Take Advantage of Reviews & Ratings

One of the algorithms that the App Store uses to rank apps is reviews and ratings.

If your app has an average of one star with several poor ratings, you sink to the bottom of the search ranking. If you had a ton of five-star reviews and the feedback was stellar, you climb quickly to the top of your category in the App Store.

Most people will not take the time to leave feedback, so you need to get creative in nudging them a little.

Telling users in the description of the app that in order to keep producing high-quality apps that you need some love as far as feedback, it might work. Others turn to social media to nudge their users to go back and rate the app.

                                      • Search & The ASO Algorithm

When users are actively using one of your apps, the App Store has algorithms in place to move your app higher or lower in the search standing based on that one feature alone.

If users are using the app each month, and more client engagement is occurring, you get a boost in the ranking. If less people each month are using the app and you are also losing users who are deleting the app, this is bad for your ranking. You should be constantly improving the app based on user feedback, then sending out free downloads to improved versions.

                                      • Engage Active Users

Another way that the App Store determines where to rank your app in the store in by the amount of time users are making use of your app.

If users are still participating with the app each day, and new users are coming on board steadily, then you get more exposure. If users are spending less time using the app and customer engagement is sinking, so will your placement.

You can see that many of these ranking factors aren't in your control, so build useful and high-quality apps to help those applications get better placement in the App Store.

"Living a frugal lifestyle gives you the opportunity to invest more money towards your future." ― John Rampton

How To Save Money & Achieve More Downloads

All the hard work is over, you spent countless hours developing your mobile app, you uploaded it to the App Store, and you are sitting back waiting for the rush of traffic to come and make use of your new app.

You may find however, that even though the app store has your app in their directory, progress is slow and you just are not seeing the results that you had hoped.

It is not time to give up now, all you need to do is get some interest in your application by way of free advertising.

Promoting your app for free takes a certain degree of skill and persistence, but once you reach that threshold, the gates will fly open and steady traffic will begin to utilise your app and explode your downloads.

Here are a few simple ways on how to promote your app for free:

                                            1. Find Influencers & Do Guest Post Blogging
Spend some time looking online for industry experts who have blogs, see if they would be interested in sharing your app on their blog. Offer to make a guest post on all the reasons their followers could benefit from downloading the app. If you have a free version, allow them to offer this to their followers with zero risk. This technique could have thousands flooding your app in short order.

                                            2. Power of Hashtags
Try to get some buzz concerning the name of your app. Use the name of your app as a hashtag, and promote it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. It could wind up getting some traction and if it hits the trending pages, you may see a huge rush of traffic today.

                                            3. Get More Reviews
There are a number of app review websites online, so start working on building up a list you can contact. Create an email describing the benefits of your app and simply personalise it a little for the website you are contacting. These personalised pitches might peak the interest of one or more, so it is a numbers game, keep emailing.

                                            4. ASO - App Store Optimization
If you are not familiar with App Store optimization, now is the time to get familiar with the process. Getting your app to the top of the searches is key with so much competition these days. Each day you are not taking action to get to the front of the search listings, you are simply losing ground to your competition.

                                            5. Link To Other Apps
When you have more than one app, you can link the new app to the other apps so that people who already have download the app can get a free upgrade with new features, one of them being a link to another app that you have. Users who are already happy with your service will gladly follow the link to the new app and possibly download it. If nothing else, they may promote it to their inner circle of friends.

                                            6. Try Simple Print Marketing
Don't be afraid to try some older methods of marketing. Create a flyer and hang it on the bulletin board at schools, the supermarket, or the coffee shop. Even if you get one or two new downloads, you spent minimal effort on this technique.

                                            7. Create Bookmarking Links
Bookmarking is a popular way to get a huge amount of traffic to your mobile app. Find the top ten bookmarking sites, and just promote your app in a way that gets some attention. If a few people see and share the links via their social marketing platforms, your link and app could be exposed to a new audience instantly.

                                            8. The Power of Forums
There are a number of discussion forums that are geared towards your niche. Sign up and become an active participant. This is not the place to spam the forum, just link to your app in your signature, and in time, the users of that discussion group will poke around and want to see more about who you are. When you become an authority in your niche, it is easier for users to feel at ease about clicking those links.

                                            9. Promote via Twitter
If you do not have a Twitter profile yet, now is the time. Take the time to create a profile, link to your app in the App Store, and send out compelling tweets each day with the correct hashtags for your niche. When you are promoting an app that has a wide array of fonts, using hashtags like #fonts, #writing, and #webdesign, could attract the targeted audience you are looking for.

                                            10. Get Involved With Facebook Groups
Even though Facebook is flooded with advertisements these days, you can still use Facebook groups to get out the word about your app for free. Join groups that have to do with your subject matter, then participate in the discussions. Once you get some notoriety, you can start talking about your free app to the group. There are also hundreds of Facebook Groups that only review each others work, so try to get more eyes on your apps that way too.

                                            11. Start A Blog
One of the easiest ways to get some buzz about your app is to simply write about it. There are hundreds of article directories online that accept original submissions, all you have to do is write a compelling article. If you are not very good at writing articles, there are dozens of writer websites online where you could pay someone to write the content for you. Websites like Textbroker and iWriter have professional writers on standby around the clock that will create unique and high-quality content in hours for you so that you can blast the article submission sites with your message.

                                            12. Encourage Feedback & Build A Community
Encourage someone who has bought your app to leave you feedback. One of the ways you can climb the ranks in the App Store is to simply have more feedback than others in your niche. Another way that you can get free feedback, is to simply offer review copies of your app to anyone interested in checking it out. If there is a premium on the app and you tell someone you will give them a free review copy in exchange for them leaving the appropriate feedback, you could start climbing the organic searches in the App Store quickly.

Now you know how to promote your app for free and get a larger audience interested in your application - get started and get more downloads today!

8 Clever Ways to Monetize Your App

                                                  by Saul Edmonds

                                                  How to Monetize Your App

With so many free apps available at the App Store, you are going to run into resistance right out of the gate if you are trying to charge a premium for your app.

This is why coming up with clever ways to monetize your app is so important.

If you give the user what they want, then they will be more likely to open their wallet at a later time. The key is disguising those efforts at the beginning, allowing the users to fall in love with your app first and not be worried about having to pay for anything.

Consider these 8 clever ways to monetize your app and enjoy a steady stream of income for the foreseeable future.

                                                  1. Free App Advertising
Make no mistake about it, the majority of the apps that you find in the App Store are free for the end-user.

The only way that you are going to break into this space is starting with a free app at first. Also known as a light version, the free app has all the features to give the user a decent experience.

Using a number of programs, you have ads pop up that make you money. Whether the user clicks the app to close the window or wants to see more information, you make some money. The ads will appear at certain intervals, and if you have decent traffic, this could be a real money-maker.

                                                  2. Premium Apps
Keeping with the theme of the free app you designed, what you need to make is another version that has a few more bells and whistles that you can pass off as a premium version.

For example, maybe you made the best gaming app in the App Store, and with the free version, users have to deal with ads and can only play until lever 7. With a premium version, the user pays a small price to be able to open the game to all the levels.

The other way to create a premium app is to simply offer the users the ability to enjoy the app without ads for a small price. Some users want to get more from the app without distractions and will gladly fork over a few dollars for that ability.

                                                  3. Emails and Sign-ups
During the development of your app, drop a kink to your website where users can get more information and learn about you or your company.

Be sure to place a prominent sign-up box on the website that will capture leads easily.

The goal here is to get people to sign-up so that you can promote your products to them down the road. It is much easier to send out emails to a target group then try to catch them in the App Store.

With your email marketing, you are in complete control of what and how often you mail your group of followers. There is no need to worry about breaking the rules of the App Store when you are simply mailing your customers with new products, apps, and offers.

                                                  4. Compatible Versions
Perhaps you developed a gaming app that is very popular, capitalize on that success by creating a new version at a premium.

Maybe the free version was about a puppy and its journey through the woods to find his way home, if it was popular, create Puppy 2, like the Mario Bros. series, and offer an early release at a low price before you are going to raise to the full price. Create that buzz on the free app too.

                                                  5. Offering Various Payment Options
Not every person has access to a credit card, so you might be limiting your monetization efforts by only offering one payment method.

Subscribe to as many payment processes as possible and give your users the chance to pay with any method they prefer.

                                                  6. Selling Out
Perhaps you hit the jackpot with one of your mobile apps, and you think you have hit the ceiling as far as your earning potential.

Simply certificate the code and then offer it to other developers at a price, this way you make money off the customers of your competition.

                                                  7. Trial Offers
An ingenious way to monetize an app is to simply offer a free trial offer.

So for example, you have an app that has 1,000 of the most popular fonts ever created. Users can freely use the app for a predetermined amount of time.

Once they fall in love with the app, the trial expires and all those fonts are locked out, unless they want to pay a small premium.

                                                  8. Hints and Cheats
Maybe you created a gaming app that is so engaging that players can not get enough. If the game is like Mario Bros. for example, eventually they are going to hit a wall and be trapped at a level for too long.

For a small fee, offer them an opportunity to see some cheats, access special features, or get the tools needed to advance without having to struggle to find the results on their own.

These 8 clever ways to monetize your app just scratch the surface, but should have you at the least headed in the right direction to making money with your apps.

"It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; its the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time." ―David Allan Coe

                                                        Before You Build Your App

Before your app can even get out of the development gate, you will come to a fork in the road that will force you to make a decision that will affect your user experience long-term. The fork in the road is having to decide between native app development or the cross platform app development.

Choose correctly and you will enhance the overall user experience (UX) and help to drive more targeted traffic to your business.

To help you to decide which of these two is right for your business, we need to look at the benefits of each so you will be in a better position to decide today.

                                                        Native App Development

The native app development is the application program designed to be used on one particular device or platform.

Also known as native apps, they are written for one specific platform and will easily interact with all the operating system features or other types of software that will be installed on this platform.

This is a development process that makes use of every feature easily for the design team. The reason that many programmers and developers prefer the native apps process is because the application is written in the programming language that will be specific for that platform only. The most common languages that developers will use is the Java for Android devices and the Swift or Objective-C for the Apple devices.

To get a better understanding of how these application works in real-time, one only needs to look at the extremely popular Angry Bird or Instagram apps. These are both native applications and simplistic on the surface, but highly functional depending on the mobile device.

When making use of native applications, developers can incorporate app-defined or standard operating gestures. This type of development process can make use of the device's notification system and has the ability to work offline too.

                                                        Enhance Your Users Experience

With native app development, this is a faster and more reliable platform that is more responsive to the user. Users are all about speed when they use their mobile devices, any hiccups or hangups can ruin the overall user experience.

When utilising native app development - your app can tap into other functions within the device, such as compass, camera, microphone, or swiping gestures.

If the developer chooses native app development, push notifications can be used to alert the user of new content, new upgrades, or whenever you want to get the user to take a certain call to action.

Of both types of app development, native app development seems to be on the rise year to year as it is growing in popularity on many fronts.

                                                        Cross Platform App Development

To get a better understanding about what is cross platform development, it is designing software or services that can easily run on multiple platforms or a variety of software environments.

Developers and engineers will need to use a large amount of different methods to ensure the app functions well on different operating systems for a single product.

When it comes to cross platform development, the most common and universal of languages is java, an intermediate language category.

The Challenges of Cross Platform Development

Make no mistake about it, this is the more challenging processes for developers because it needs to work on Windows, Linux, Mac, and more. Most engineers will employ one of two developing methods, compiling an executable program into an operating environment or using an intermediate language and then compiling only once.

With the cross platform development, obviously you are going to get a greater reach because you cover more applications and platforms. Developing the app that can run on Android and iPhone is a huge advantage when your competition only has one. With this type of development, you have the potential to tap into a greater market.

The Advantages of Cross Platform Development

Perhaps the biggest advantage to the cross platform development is when changes are needed to be made. Once the change has been deployed by the development team, it immediately synchs to all the platforms and devices instantly.

Of course, when you have developed the app to run on all those platforms and devices, it tends to look more uniform because there is only a single code running in the background for them all.

With cross platform development, if you’re using Appcelerator, your team can easily then code HTML5 and convert for a variety of mobile platforms. You will be using resources you already have and converting them for future deployment across a number of different platforms.

When it comes to saving money, you can expect reduced development costs when using the cross platform development method.

When you are custom designing the application, there are unlimited amounts of tools out there that can to make the process easier. Tools like Unity, Rhonmobile, Ramp, PhoneGap, Open Plug, and Grapple, make the task much easy for you. When you are custom designing the application, you need all the help you can get in differences in tools and languages for each platform’s API.

An Effective App Design is Crucial For Success

As far as cross platform development, developers will need to be able to work together to figure out a solution so that the diverse screen layouts of the iPhone and Android are not an issue. Creating an app design that looks great on all devices can be a challenge, but most developers are up to this task.

As far as platform integration with cross platform development, it might appear on the surface that integrating preferences, local settings, and notifications can be problematic at the beginning. Utilizing cloud options should eliminate these concerns and allow the development process to continue without real issues.

When it comes to native app development vs cross platform app development, now you should have a better idea which is right for your business. The mobile phone wakes us up each morning, it helps us determine the weather for the day, allows us to listen to music, instantly chat with family and friends around the globe, and even navigates our vehicle down the shortest and least congested roads to work.

With over two billion people owning a smartphone today, the integration of mobile technology into our daily lives is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

These are the top 7 key mobile app development trends that will predominate the market in 2017.

                                                              1. The Importance of Artificial Intelligence
This year alone, it is predicted that in the artificial intelligence realm, there will be an explosion of over 300% as far as users relying on this technology.

Machine learning techs, cognitive interfaces, and advanced analytics will provide many business users the ability to access powerful insights into the workings of their company and allow them to grow like never before.

Google Now and Siri, to name a few, are already household names, and more are predicted to come on the scene in the next few months.

                                                              2. The Rise of Cloud Driven Mobile Apps
One of the biggest issues that many smartphone users can relate to is a crowded device that runs sluggishly due to an abundance of apps, pictures, games, and videos.

The cloud driven mobile apps is not only on the rise, it appears to be becoming a necessity that will not be leaving any time soon.

From tech professionals to average consumers, everyone today is making use of some sort of cloud based device to free up the limited space and resources on their device.

Now instead of all that data clogging the mobile devices ability to fiction at high speeds, the phone fetches what it needs from the cloud and takes minimal space on the internal memory of the smartphone.

                                                              3. Increasing in Office Interactions Easily
One of the most popular of all mobile app developments in 2017 that is here to stay,  is the ability to streamline and restructure your business processes while on the go.

Micro-apps and enterprise apps allow the company to easily restructure crucial business process like collaborating on team projects when all participants are in different cities, or to participate in a seminar where team members are scattered around the globe.

To get a better understanding of the importance of these apps, one only needs to look at Evernote, a mobile app that allows business users to collaborate on any project through their mobile device, regardless where all the players are at this moment. An impressive 77% of business owners found this apps advantageous to increasing their company's bottom line.

                                                              4. The Increase in Security
With more people utilising their mobile devices each day, security is vital to success.

People today are banking with their mobile devices, paying bills, funding their retirement accounts, and even paying for everyday purchases at the cash registers at retail outlets.

Hackers are well aware of the increased use of mobile devices and how many people are becoming more comfortable sharing their personal information. These hackers are lightning fast at spotting security gaps in any mobile app, so app development companies rely heavily on improved security features that will block sensitive and confidential information from peering eyes.

                                                              5. Explosion in Wearable Devices
Now when we talk about mobile wearable devices, we are not talking about the Life Alert system that helps to get the right medical personal to the home of a fallen elderly person.

Even kids today are making use of a variety of wearable mobile devices like the Apple Watch, Fit-Bit, or Google Daydream. These devices allow the wearer to do many things on the run, and it is only getting more popular as more companies are creating devices that meet a particular need with their audience. No longer is the healthcare industry at the forefront of the wearable niche in mobile technology.

                                                              6. E-Commerce is Extremely Popular
It was only a few years ago that many people were terrified at the thought of using their credit cards to pay for anything on their mobile devices.

Today, the ability to pay with a mobile app installed on your phone that is connected to your bank account is almost second nature for some. Instead of reaching for your debit or credit card to pay for something in a retail outlet, consumers with mobile devices simply make use of Apple Pay or Google Wallet.

Combining these pay platforms with wearable devices, and the consumer has the ability to safely pay for services faster than ever before. Instantly, these users can check their phone to make sure they were charged correctly and what their remaining balance is currently.

                                                              7. The Rise of Location Based Services
To get a better understanding of how location-based services are becoming of central importance in 2017, one only needs to look at Google beacon or Apple iBeacon services.

To get a better understanding of the beacon based service, the WiFi technology that used to be the mainstay in retail outlets, hotels, and restaurants is now more personalised.

For example, these devices can now pick up on when a loyal customer enters their establishment and offer them coupon and promo codes to enhance the buying experience. If you are a loyal customer of a retail outlet like Victoria's Secret, your phone receives a notification seconds after you enter the store about an offer. The offer is tailored to your previous purchases, helping you to save more on the things you really need.

There is no stopping progress in the mobile technology world, and these 7 mobile app development in 2017 trends are not only here to stay, they are going to thrive for years to come as even more people own mobile devices and rely on them to get through their day.

                                                                    The Future Is Mobile

Mobile apps have literally changed the way that people get through their days. Their apps wake them up in the morning, allow them to listen to music during the day, help them drive to work, and even allow them to pay for purchases throughout the day.

Mobile apps are enriching people’s lives like never before.

As a result, the Apple App Store has been growing into an exciting ecosystem for millions and millions of developers to provide for the billion users looking to buy them.

It doesn't matter if you are a first time developer or your office employs a large team of experienced programmers, it is important that you understand the Apple's App Store approval process by learning the guidelines first.

Once you understand the approval process, it will help the eventual review process move along more quickly.

An Overview of the App Store Approval & Review Process

Normally an app will be reviewed and released in 24 hours, but there are so many things that come into play that can slow down the process.

The team at Apple want a safe user experience for everyone, and while the guidelines are firm, you can really help the process along if you understand what the Apple team is looking for when they make their decision.

The team at Apple will reject content they feel is 'over the line'. To get a better understanding where that line is, the Apple Review Team says that you will know when you crossed it. Gaming and cheating the system is not tolerated by Apple, so if you think in the development process that you can steal user data, trick the review process, or try to steal another developer's work, your app is not only going to be rejected, you stand a good chance of being expelled from the Developer Program and that means you will never be able to list an app in the Apple Store again.

Before you hit the submit button at the Apple App Store for review, check to see if your app has any of these common mistakes that are slowing down the review process for everyone.

6 Key Ways You Can Help to Get Your App Approved For Sale On The App Store

                                                                    1. Test your app frequently before submitting to see if it has any bugs or it it constantly is crashing.

                                                                    2. Make certain the metadata fields and app information is accurate and complete.

                                                                    3. If the App Team needs to reach you, make sure that your contact information is accurate.

                                                                    4. Create an active login for a demo that might help the review team with their decision.

                                                                    5. Provide back-end services so the app is live and also accessible while under review.

                                                                    6. Offer the review team detailed explanations of features they might not be familiar with and supporting documentation.

                                                                    Safety First

One of the things you have to address before you submit to the Apple's App Store approval review team is the safety of the application. Users want to feel confident the apps they install are safe, so if your app contains upsetting content, damages their device, or is intended to shock people, the Apple App Store is not the right place to submit your app.

The team at Apple are always looking for new ways to improve the performance of their devices, and they hold apps to the same standards during the review process.

                                                                    • The app you submit must be the final version with fully functioning URLs.
                                                                    • Remove any placeholders or empty content before submitting, then test it before you submit.
                                                                    • Trial versions, betas, and demos should not be submitted to the Apple Store for review.
                                                                    • The App Store is not a software testing service, they will instantly reject the app that is packed with technical issues or is not the final version.

                                                                    Test, Test & Test Again

During the development of your mobile app, make sure that you have thoroughly tested the hardware compatibility.

In order for a user to get the most of your app, it needs to run on the iPad whenever possible. Universal apps that can run on multiple devices are most efficient and will allow the review team to quickly approve the app.

                                                                    A Clear Monetisation Strategy

When it comes to monetizing your app, make sure that your business model is obvious or it can delay the review process.

If the review team is struggling to identify how in-app purchases will be made, it will slow down the review process and could result in the app being rejected. If the team thinks you are trying to cheat customers, expect a lightning fast rejection and possible ban.

                                                                    Earn Reviews The Right Way

If the review team sees that you attempted to inflate the ranking of your app or manipulate the reviews with fake feedback, they will take quick steps to preserve the integrity of the App Store, and that usually means rejecting your app and banning you from submitting apps in the future. The reviews will roll in at their own pace, do not try to game the system or you risk losing your standing in the Developer Program.

                                                                    Monitor Your App Over Time

One thing is certain, Apple consumers have always placed a high value of things they buy that are innovative, refined, simple, and painless to use. Although a great design is half the battle, make sure the app is fully functional across a variety of platforms.

Your app needs to be closely monitored even after approval because if it stops working for any reason, the review team will remove it at any time.

The Value Of An Original Idea

Finally, come up with your own ideas before submitting your mobile app to the Apple's App Store approval team. Copycats are not tolerated at the Apple App Store, so if it closely resembles another app with slight modifications, it will be rejected. When you copy a popular app and make changes, you also risk crossing the line of an intellectual property infringement claim.

In a recent study that was conducted by IBM, they discovered that for every dollar that you are investing in the User Experience (UX), it will return between ten and a hundred fold on the original investment. With so many different ways to enhance the user experience, many people get overwhelmed thinking they have too little or too many, and simply do nothing. This is a very important part of app development, so having a detailed checklist allows you to work through everything to make sure you are giving your customers the best possible user experience.

The following detailed information will greatly help your project coordinator in designing and moving forward with the mobile product development project. Just because there are a thousand ways to enhance the user experience, does not mean that you have to be using them all.

If you follow this mobile UX design checklist, your users are going to be raving about the experience.

                                                                          1. Comprehensive Data
Make sure that before you begin groundwork on your app - you know exactly what type of metrics must be tracked or acquired from the user that has downloaded your app.

                                                                          2. User Flow
Before you release your app - in order to ensure everyone is having the best possible user experience - the flow of your app needs to be tested so you see how your user engages with your app, from screen to screen, until they reach their desired result.

                                                                          3. The Red Route
It is important that during the design of your app, your developer logically groups functions and content in line with what your users require.

                                                                          4. User Feedback
Experience shows that your app will mature as users grow and your community flourishes. Your users are going to give you plenty of feedback about what changes they want. Be sure you have a system in place for listening to those requests and taking quick action before you lose your audience.

                                                                          5. The 5 W's
If you want to perfect the user experience during app development, your team needs to be asking the five w's of design; who is the app for, what are they using it for, when will they use it, where are they using it, why do they need this app?

                                                                          6. Analysing Competition
Just don't let the competition steamroll your business, take the time to see what they are doing right, what are they doing wrong, what could you do better, and what are they doing you need to be doing? Don't reinvent the wheel, just make it better.

                                                                          7. The Prototype
Don't put all that effort into making features in your app before you see how they work on paper. Draw out exactly how each part of the user experience will deliver value, and if it is not something that enhances the experience, move on.

                                                                          8. Brainstorming
Get all the people on this project in one room and grab the whiteboards! A nice brainstorming session could open doors to ideas no one even considered before. It is amazing what can come from a brainstorming session where everyone has a voice to be heard.

                                                                          9. The Style Sheet
A style sheet will help everyone to be on the same page as far as visual consistency between all the screens. Once you come up with at least two versions, you will be able to ultimately test A/B variations and clearly determine the version that is most desirable.

                                                                          10. Wire-framing
This digital blueprint will help the team to structure the user story, red routes, and flow of the app while defining how the navigation system ties everything together.

                                                                          11. Gesture Support
Not every user is going to be right-handed. Make sure there is adequate focus on swiping for different users, dragging, pinching, rotating, and motion detection that could be affected by different wearables or smartphones.

                                                                          12. Loading Times
No one likes a slow-loading app, so be sure to test loads during different parts of the user experience. If things are grinding to a halt, trim the fat and get things moving along before users begin leaving poor feedback.

                                                                          13. Error Attribution
There are going to be errors along the way, from a user entering the wrong password to the app crashing. Make sure the team can identify who is responsible for the error and how it is communicated to the right people to get it fixed. Usability issues early on in the app release can sink a ship quickly.

                                                                          14. Pop-Ups
The pop-up can be useful to help getting feedback from the user, but if it interrupts their experience or happens to frequently, you are going to lose them by distracting from the overall experience.

                                                                          15. Font Size
The size of the font that you are using in the app can have a huge impact on user experience. If the user has to keep pinching the screen to read the content, they are going to grow increasingly frustrated with the experience. Stick with a font size at 14px or 16px, then let the user adjust if needed.

                                                                          16. Call-to-Action
The call to action buttons, links, images, must be clearly visible or the user could scroll right by it and you lose an opportunity. If you can squint your eyes and the call-to-action is gone, you didn't make it clear enough. Bold is better in this instance.

                                                                          17. Settings Feature
The majority of people who use your app are going to want to customise the settings to their own liking. This is a good thing, unless you make it a challenge for them to change the settings. Make it simple for the user to change their experience.

                                                                          18. Mobile Interactions
Be sure that you have plenty of social share buttons or ways the user can share the experience with their inner circle easily. Making life for user easier will result in more targeted traffic finding your app.

This 18 point checklist for your mobile UX design should help you to get the project off to a great start and hit the ground running. Many of these steps are a work in progress and are ongoing, so if your users are making requests to enhance your app experience - listen, take action and adjust accordingly. Good luck with your new app!

                                                                                Brand First, Market Second

Perhaps you are wondering what is the difference between a marketing agency and a brand agency, so today we are going to paint a clear picture so there will be no doubt in your mind.

When you better understand the difference in marketing and branding, you will be able to move your business in the right direction and in the correct order.

At the most basic level, marketing is the process of pushing your message to the target audience where branding is more about creating attention to your company. So to better understand, the branding comes first, then the marketing follows. Your company owns your marketing, your customers own your brand.

The Role Of Your Marketing Agency

The marketing agency does not have to develop the theme or logo for your company, all that is in place already. The marketing agency is going to discuss with a company their goals and core values, then try to align an advertising strategy that will connect with the most qualified consumers. This can only be done successfully if the branding has already been completed by a brand agency.

The Role Of Your Brand Agency

The brand agency is all about helping to identify your business values and help give them a face. The brand of your company goes out like a beacon to the world, and if done correctly, connects with people on an emotional level. The brand is how the consumer will be able to identify your company from the millions in your niche, so it really has to be done with creative skill, care and focus.

Remember - Your Brand Is More Than Your Logo

When it comes to branding, we think of a brand-name, packaging, and graphic identity.

Branding is not just the process of creating a compelling logo that resonates with buyers, branding is more about ideas, perceptions, notions about the company, a product, or the service. If you can connect to a buyer on an emotional level, then the marketing aspect will be easier because they are already invested emotionally.

Marketing is a more complex aspect because you are taking one company and one core set of values and trying to reach a global audience. Think of branding as the bulls-eye on the dart board, and marketing and the entire rest of the board. Marketing is all about doing anything that will attract a large majority of people to show some interest in the company.

Brand For the Long Term, Market For The Mid Term

One week a certain marketing technique may work, then next month a whole new approach could show bigger results. With marketing, you have to get immediate results in order to continue the process. Marketing is not about developing long-term relationships like with branding, this mid-term approach is all about getting more people though the doors.

The goal of the branding agency is to help a business to connect with and then establish longer relationships with clients. Branding is all about keeping focus on the bigger picture, helping to provide the consumer everything they need that they are not getting from a business in a similar niche. Branding focuses on creating consistent, trusting, coherent, strong relationships.

Do you need an integrated brand design and marketing strategy?
