10 Ways To Make Word of Mouth Marketing Work for You

    by Saul Edmonds

How To Make Word of Mouth Marketing Work for Your Business

Word-of-mouth marketing is a crucial component of organic growth for startups and one of the primary ways that Weebly has grown to over 15 million customers.
    David Rusenko

Use the Power of Word of Mouth

One of the most powerful tools in your marketing strategy is word-of-mouth campaigns.

This type of advertising actually generates high quality referrals because they are coming to you from a trusted source rather than finding you through other mediums. The biggest benefit to the word-of-mouth campaigns is they literally cost a fraction of traditional advertising methods.

Here is a list of the 10 things you must do to improve your word-of-mouth marketing campaigns:

    1. Making a One Page Flyer

This flyer should be simple in design and basically give a quick overview of your business. Keep these handy and be ready to pass them out throughout the day to any prospective clients. Always have a hard copy available in case you need to e-mail a copy to someone quickly.

    2. Q&A Sheets

This Q&A sheet is the perfect way that you and another networker can learn more about each others business. By filling out the sheet completely, you instantly learn all you need to know about their business, and they yours. This way you won't forget any key details when the chance to make that referral arises.

    3. The Testimonial Letter

One of the most effective ways to show others the overall quality of your business is by having testimonial letters. Keep the hard copies and then post them to your website. If you have social media profiles like LinkedIn, ask other clients in your network to begin to recommend you and your services.

    4. Images of Your Facility, Staff, Products, Awards

A professional image of yourself can really make the difference on your business cards and social media profiles. Being able to put a face to the business can really help people to connect with you more on an emotional level. Collect as many images of your facility, awards, staff, and keep them all organized either on your website or in a brochure you can hand out.

    5. Detailed Explanation of Your Business

You should have plenty of material that gives people an in depth look inside your company. These items range from mission statements, annual reports, or a clearly written out history of the business from start-up to now. All these documents help to give more credibility to your company.

    6. New Product Announcements

While you are networking, make certain these people who could become potential customers are always informed of the latest releases of products or services you have. Announcements and press releases and a great way to keep them informed, and can either be posted online or handed out at network meetings. You should always have plenty of current brochures on hand that showcase your latest products in case you meet someone that can connect you with a new group of customers.

    7. Membership Affiliations

When you meet someone for the first time, it can be very helpful to show them your business affiliations and discuss any mutual acquaintances. This could open the door to a new introduction to someone in those organisations that you have been trying to meet for the longest time. Now you have an opportunity to meet them through your new contact.

    8. Any Articles That Mention Your Name

Articles that have your name published in them are excellent resources for showcasing the world that you are an authority in your niche. Many potential clients simply want to only do business with people who are perceived as experts in their field.

    9. Showcase Recent Projects

If you happen to meet a prospective client at a networking event, showcasing recently completed projects can help break the ice. Your potential customer may have a specific need that is similar to some recent jobs that you have completed. You can demonstrate that you really are an authority in that field if you have competed work at hand.

    10. Trends In Your Industry

When you are on top of all the trends taking place in your industry, you are in a better position to have a more targeted conversion with new clients. Discuss the latest trends in a way that is relevant to each person and offer some advice to clients that utilise your services. By staying up on current news in your industry, it shows that you are knowledgable about your business.

7 Step Guide to Email Marketing for Small Business

    by Saul Edmonds

7 Steps to Successful Email Marketing for Small Business

In a crowded marketplace, fitting in is a failure. In a busy marketplace, not standing out is the same as being invisible.
    Seth Godin

Grow Your Reach With Email Marketing

Reach out to your existing customers via email. Discover how affordable, yet powerful, email marketing is.

Use email marketing to grow your business, expand your audience, and increase your profits.

Read our 7 steps for effective marketing for small business to learn more.

    1. Growing Your Mailing List

In order to email to your customers, you have to collect their contact information first. You should aim to grow your email list each day. Make it easy for your audience to sign up for newsletters or further correspondence. The sign up box on your website needs to be above the fold, where new visitors can not miss it. There should also be a link to a sign up page in every correspondence email you send. There should also be plenty of ways for new customers to find that sign up box from all your social media profile pages.

    2. The Power of the Subject Line

Use the subject line of your email messages to motivate your readers to open your emails. Ensure your subject line informs or inspires positive action. Keep your subject line as short as possible, yet compelling enough to prompt people to open the email. Be careful not to use terminology that might get flagged by the spam filters.

    3. Being Compliant

If you want your messages to reach your intended target, you have to play by the rules. Remain within the guidelines of the Marketing Act of 2003. This act was implemented to keep business owners from spamming customers. If your messages are flagged, you run the risk of having your IP blacklisted by your service provide.

    4. Developing Your Audience

Pay close attention to how your audience is interacting with your emails. Look to see which emails are getting the biggest responses. Continually aim to improve your campaigns. Pay close attention to what triggered a better response rate, and then go from there. Taking the time to review your email metrics will help you fine-tune your emails for maximum success.

    5. Best Practices

Remember that the more images in your email message, the better response from readers. An effective email must be easy to read, well branded and visually engaging.

    6. Keeping Things Simple

Keep things brief and then test until you find the perfect sized message that works for your unique audience. The key to success with email marketing is saying more with less words. Incorporate videos and high quality images to ensure success with your recipients.

    7. Keep the Communication Ongoing

Just because the reader is finished with your email message, doesn't mean the communication has to end. Aim to keep the conversation going. Offer additional information and helpful advice.

IS EMAIL MARKETING WORKING FOR YOU?

At Roundhouse, we understand how effectively email marketing can be used to connect regularly with your existing customers. How To Use The Power of Storytelling To Grow Your Business

    by Saul Edmonds

    Why Storytelling is Smarter Marketing

Storytelling is important. Part of human continuity.
               Robert Redford

How To Use Storytelling to Cut Through the Noise

Effective marketing is all about being able to engage your potential customers and create proactive brand believers.

This is how you gain more fans for just about everything that you sell.

Storytelling can play a big part in attracting and growing your customer base.

It helps to identify your core values in the company, and more importantly, it makes it much easier for the audience to share the story with family, coworkers and friends. If you were told the statistics of a company versus a unique story about how they saved the day - or overcame a significant challenge - chances are you will remember the story.

    Make Your Mission Statement Work

The core belief behind your company story should reflect your mission statement.

Whether you are selling cars or computers, the story of your business is a very powerful tool that will elevate the business from ordinary to extraordinary. More businesses are starting to realise that in order to connect with a customer, you have to first identify with that customer.

If the story of your business addresses a problem that the customer can relate to, then your business can solve their problem more easily. Your business doesn't have to be like the competition, highlighting all those bullet points and statistics. Make the story of your business is more enjoyable and easier to remember.

Use Storytelling To Solve a Problem

The stories that your business tells should always address a need that your audience has, then show the customers how your product or service provides the best solution for that problem.

By creating a problem in advance, it is easier for you to develop a story where your company comes in and saves the day. When your story has some human elements to it that evoke emotion, it can really leave a memorable message with your audience. These messages are something your customers care about, not statistics and bullet points. Those bullet points don't solve a problem, the story does.

    Great Stories Need Emotion

Great stories take the reader on a roller coaster of emotions.

    Every story needs a hero:

The story begins with the hero discovering that the villain is standing in the way. The hero tries everything to defeat the villain, only to find the villain is much stronger and harder to defeat than initially thought. Throughout the story the hero looks for possible solutions, to only fall flat each time. Finally towards the end of the story, just when it looked like the villain has won, the hero uses your products or services and defeats the villain.

Engaging the reader in this manner is easier for them to connect with and to relate to. it also makes it easier for the reader to take the store and expand on it as they tell their friends.

Easy Ways To Develop Your Storyline

Think out loud for a minute about a product or service that you cannot live without.

Think about the company that provides that service or product and now compare their story to yours. If you cannot live without their service, what was it about their story that hooked you as a customer for life? Identify what their story does and how their products are directly related to the story they tell.

Your goal should be to get to that top spot and become the business or service your customers cannot live without.

If you are struggling with your story, ask yourself a few of these questions to get you on the right path.

    • Are your thoughts advancing an idea or concept?
    • Are all your thoughts actionable?
    • Are your thoughts commercially relevant?
    • Can you say your idea is new and fresh?
    • Will your thoughts get customers to take action?

This is a long term process and not something that happens after one brainstorming session. You might be surprised to know that over 60% of your audience has been waiting almost a year to make a choice or a decision. If your story in compelling enough, you can help those people who have difficulty making decisions finally close the deal.

Focus on your message being informative rather than always looking for something in return. if you solve a problem, you gain a customer for the long haul who will tell your story to everyone they come in contact with.

    ARE YOU TELLING YOUR STORY?

At Roundhouse, we understand how to effectively use storytelling to 'cut through the noise'. Your story is unique to you. Tell your story and infuse your marketing with your key mission statement. If you want to learn more about how marketing with storytelling can work for your business, please get in touch.

How To Drive More Sales with Mobile Responsive Design

    by Saul Edmonds

Why Every Business Website Must Be Mobile Responsive Today

"Change before you have to." - Jack Welch

    The Rise of Mobile Search

This year more people will not only own mobile devices, they will be using them for far more tasks than in previous years.

People are using their tablets and smartphones on the go to do all those thing that used to be only available on your desktop computer. They aren't just surfing, these people are posting on their social media profiles, shopping, and checking their emails throughout the day. Studies have revealed the average Facebook user is spending 55 minutes a day on that one social media platform alone.

If your website is not mobile friendly, you are losing out on potentially a huge amount of new traffic. Creating a mobile responsive design works for both the desktop and mobile devices.

Here are a few reasons why mobile responsive design can help drive more sales to your website.

    Better Visitor Experience

The idea of mobile responsive design simply means that your website looks the same on a desktop as it does on the mobile devices.

When a visitor stops by your website on their desktop, they get to see the entire expanded site on the monitor. On a mobile device the entire website including all images must be reduced in size to fit the smaller screen.

With mobile responsive design you do not have to worry about creating a separate website design for each type of mobile device. Your website will automatically retract to fit any size screen. With mobile technologies allowing users to access their favorite websites from anywhere they can get an internet connection, it is extremely important you act now and incorporate the mobile responsive design.

    Listen to Google

One of the biggest search engines is of course Google. When Google recommends website owners make a certain change it is important for them to listen or be left behind when the changes are rolled out. Google has already made it clear that they prefer mobile responsive design because it allows the search engine spiders to easily crawl the pages and rank them in the organic search results.

If the google bot can not crawl your website, your website will simply lose that placement you have worked so hard to get. If Google is saying they prefer mobile responsive design so they only need crawl your content once, it is a good idea to get moving on this as soon as possible.

    Better Conversion Rates

The most important reason why you should consider a mobile responsive design with your website is better conversion rates.

Studies reveal that each day 69% of people who own a tablet have made a purchase online this month. If your website is not working across those mobile devices, you are losing out on a tremendous amount of business.

People are utilizing the convenience of their mobile devices to do tasks on the run today. They are making purchasing while sitting at the airport waiting for a flight, sitting in the waiting room at the doctor office, and while sitting in line in their vehicles to pick up the kids from school. If your website is unresponsive on those mobile devices, buyers will simply shop somewhere else.

For these reasons and more, mobile responsive design can boost your sales and your profits in record time once it has been implemented with your website.

HAVE YOU UPDATED YOUR WEBSITE TO BE MOBILE RESPONSIVE?

Roundhouse has a range of cost effective options to upgrade your website to be mobile responsive. How To Build Your Brand Around a Single, Strong Idea

    by Saul Edmonds

Brand Building and The Power of A Single, Strong Idea

Your premium brand had better be delivering something special, or it's not going to get the business.
    Warren Buffett

    Define Your Key Brand Idea

The key to every successful business is to do something extremely well and then simply refine the process and do it again.

Developing your brand message can help to grow your business more effectively.

To define your brand message - simply identify your key brand concept - and make certain that your brand centers around the core beliefs of that idea. Coming up with that one great idea is actually straightforward. It is in the execution of this idea that many business owners miss the mark.

Here is how you can take your key brand idea idea and bring it to reality.

    Ideas First - Get Thinking!

The first thing that you need is the idea.

That is the easy part because there are literally millions of great brand ideas out there. Focus on a single idea you can focus the core beliefs of your company around.

It is then that the hard work actually begins.

So now you have a great idea to use! Is it unique, transformative, and significant enough to engage your customers and motivate them to buy?

If you answered 'yes', the next thing you will need is to develop a strategy for bringing that idea to life. In order for it to work, you must have those steps carefully laid out so you can implement that strategy and keep track of your progress along the way.

    Ideas Are Your Best Asset

Even if you feel that your idea might be a limitation because it has a narrow focus, consider that an asset.

Most small businesses cannot compete with large corporations because the bigger companies can continue to draw on their endless resources to make things work. The advantage that a small business has is a 'laser sharp' focus on a key idea that they simply must make work. This 'laser sharp' focus is what brings the idea to reality. Transformative ideas need passion, belief and commitment to work. This is much more powerful that simply throwing money at ideas until one sticks.

    Larger is Not Always Better

A clear focus on one key idea enables your small business to do what it does best - providing genuine 'one to one' service to your customers and delivering on your promises.

This is where the larger companies often miss the mark because their customer service just seems to fall between the cracks. Remember that the larger company is going to spend great resources to monitor thousands of different product lines, while the small business owner is focused on that one proprietary subject that most of their consumers will easily understand.

    Think Strategic Niche Marketing

    Think about it this way.

There might be several of your competitors offering a variety of services to customers.

If you choose one of those services and focus on being the leader in that service, you can attract people looking exactly for that service. Then they find other things you are good at after you have converted them. The competition is focused on telling the world they offer dozens of different services, and you come in and tell the world you are the leader in one.

As an example, consider this scenario:

There are thousands of companies that sell a huge variety of clothing in their stores. They run flyers each week focusing on discounts across all the product lines. You come in and focus on making the best shirts in the industry. These shirts fit better, look better, and are priced lower. You attract a large audience who comes to trust in your shirts. Now you show them t-shirts, ties, shoes, and they already believe your products are great because your reputation precedes you.

Make a Positive Statement To Your Customers

Ensure that your customers feel positive about using your products or services.

Focus on the feeling you want your customers to experience, and let this inform all areas of your business. The customer needs to know exactly what your brand represents and how it can help them better their way of life.

Inspire Long Term Loyalty in Your Customers

A clear focus on one single idea - ensures you build your brand to strategically represent what is most important. It is via this key, vital message - that you want to be known by to your customers.

There is a huge reward in the clarity that comes with focusing on single idea -  and really and using that idea as the foundation of your brand marketing. That reward is loyalty!

IS YOUR BRAND BUILT AROUND A KEY CONCEPT?

At Roundhouse, we understand how important it is that your brand represent your business effectively to your audience - to ensure that it connects with your customers in a truly memorable way. 5 Strategic Ways to Convert Your First Customer

    by Saul Edmonds

How to Get Your First Customer And Give Your Business A Flying Start

Best results are often achieved well before you need a job, by consistently networking so that when you find yourself job-hunting you have a large network to work with.
    Erik Qualman

How to Find Your Very First Customer

The difference between a start-up company and a start-up idea is the paying customers.

Some of the first customers to buy your products or services are a very rare breed indeed. They do not need to read testimonials in order to jump aboard, they are sympathetic to mistakes, and they are extremely patient. These are customers who are willing to pay for your product or service, even though you do not have any track record of sales and lack any experience.

Depending on the products or services you sell, here are 5 unique ways that you can entice your first customer to make a purchase with you.

    1. Using All Your Relationships

Making cold calls when you are first in business is extremely difficult.

It is even more of a challenge to sell something that is either brand new or innovative.

The key to getting that first sale is to meet with people who have some sort of connection with you. Make a list of all the associates that you have even crossed paths with, and these will be your first prospects when it comes to reaching out to find your first customer.

Use your existing relationships that have any connection to the business world. If you can get introduced to just one business owner who is sympathetic to your journey, you could be well on your way to your first business sale.

    2. Seek Out Your Prospect's Network

Try to find someone who has a relationship with a person you are trying to connect with, and make that person someone you meet or introduce yourself to.

Use this person as a recommendation when you muster up the strength to send your first client a message. Simply drop the name in the letter as you would an acquaintance.

Communicate in a friendly manner and see if you can arrange a meeting with them at a later date.

    3. Focus on the Positive

When you speak with a person who has the potential to become your first customer, be ready to answer their questions in a positive manner.

If the questions focus around how long you have been in business or how many customers do you currently have, answer them in a positive way. Instead of real world customers, use the personal recommendations of family and friends. Take the focus off the fact you are still new in the industry. By accentuating the positive, you promote confidence and professionalism.

    4. Creating Credible Partnerships

In the beginning, you have no professional credibility or referrals.

This is the time to use the credibility of a trusted company to help you to get your first customer.

Look for organisations that your potential customers already trust - perhaps a company or brand that they are familiar with. Now contact those companies and offer your services or products free of charge - in exchange for a public endorsement. You might be surprised how effective this is when you are first starting out in business.

    5. Become Your Own Expert

Early in the game when you do not have any sort of track record - the next best thing is being an expert in your industry. Once a potential customer begins to trust you as an industry expert, they are closer than ever to making a purchase from you.

Develop real world experience so you can walk the walk after you talk the talk. Then once you have developed your expertise, get to Facebook and Twitter and tell the world.

Once you get that first customer, it will literally breathe life into your future efforts.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR FIRST CUSTOMER?

How to Increase Your Business Revenue Without Actually Selling

    by Saul Edmonds

Smart Ways to Increase Business Revenues Without Selling

So long as new ideas are created, sales will continue to reach new highs.
                     Dorothea Brande

Why Building Customer Loyalty Should Be Your First Priority

One of the biggest mistakes that many business owners make is - believing that after they have successfully converted a visitor to a loyal customer, the marketing efforts end.

This should never be the case.

Your competition is aggressively looking to take away any and all of your business as quickly as they can. Marketing effectively to your customers should be a series of strategic actions that build the trust of the customer while motivating them to buy again. Stopping your marketing efforts is placing a limitation on future sales opportunities.

Get to Know Your Sales Funnel

Just about every business owner has seen a sales funnel image at one point or another.

The sales funnel is basically a visual representation that shows many leads coming in towards the bigger opening of the funnel, where only a small amount of loyal customers emerge through the opening at the bottom.

The problem for you as a business owner is understanding where those customers go after they have fallen out of your sales funnel.

To address this, the average business owner will add customers into an e-mail list where people receive an occasional newsletter or sales flyer. This is not the only way to continue the relationship with a customer who is already familiar with you and your services. The hard work is already done, you have them as a customer, now you need to invest in proactive marketing efforts to get them to act more frequently.

    Discover An Inverted Sales Funnel

The best way to increase revenues without actually doing any selling is by creating an inverted sales funnel.

An inverted sales funnel has the tiny opening at top and the big opening at the bottom.

This particular type of funnel will focus on turning your existing customers into branding evangelists. If you can master this technique, you can generate much more revenue than you could ever do with a traditional sales funnel.

The reason why the inverted funnel is so effective is because you are now offering increased value to a customer who has bought from you before.

Provide Service To Your Customers For The Long Term

Put strategies into place to provide ongoing service to your customers to win their loyalty for the long term.

Firstly, use your website to it's full advantage. Ensure that the content on your website is of the highest quality, and is updated regularly. A company blog is ideal for this.

Your audience needs to see that there is significant value in your blog posts, to keep them engaged and help them to grow their own businesses. Your information should help your customers to solve a problem that they currently have, and if you do it correctly, they will use your website like a revolving door.

You can give your customers even more value by sharing additional content or information. Some cost effective ideas here include:

    1. Give away an e-book that solves a problem. This offer could go a long way in helping to solidify your relationship with your customers. It also helps to position you as a leader in your industry.

    2. Free webinars are an effective tool for communicating information to your clients. Your customers will also appreciate being able to put a face to your business. A webinar allows them to interact with you via the Q&A forum.

    3. Social media has literally transformed the way business owners market their businesses. Take this to the next level by communicating directly with your existing clients. Follow your customers on social media and add likes and shares to their content. In return, they will probably like and follow you. The door to ongoing communication is opened.

    Find Ways To Communicate More

You want your customers to feel that their business is valuable to your company.

The key here is to build a special type of relationship with your current clients, that revolves around trust. Your clients need to believe and trust in the long term quality of your services and products.

Aim to build your sales funnel for the long term and achieve the success you deserve.

IS YOUR SALES FUNNEL WORKING FOR YOU?

9 Ways to Boost Email Marketing At Christmas

    by Saul Edmonds

9 Ways to Boost Your Email Marketing Conversion Rates This Christmas Season

Quote: Christmas is the day that holds all time together.
    Alexander Smith

Implement The Perfect Email Campaign This Christmas

Now is the perfect time to make certain that your email marketing campaign is effective and efficient.

During the year 2014, there will be well over 196 billion emails sent and received every single day.

If your email marketing campaigns are not set correctly, your messages are simply getting lost in that huge pile of cyber mail. In order to ensure your efforts are not wasted, you need to implement a few email marketing tactics that will drastically improve your holiday conversion rates.

Here is a list of 9 of the most effective tips and tricks that will not only grab the readers attention, it will help your open-rate reached higher numbers.

    1. Having a Plan in Place

Without a plan, you are simply blasting out messages to your readers in the hopes some of them get open. To effectively increase your conversion rates, you have to know what your goals are ahead of designed that campaign. If you were lucky enough to get all your email recipients to open your messages, you need to know where they should be going. Have a page or product you want them to visit, identify the goal first, then make the appropriate changes to the email campaign so you can achieve the goals you set.

    2. Use Teaser Email Subject Lines

If you tell the reader too much, they might just disregard your message for spam or something they are not interested in at the moment. Teaser messages get the reader to want to learn more, so they are more likely to open the message. If you can get the subject line under ten characters, you increase your open rate by a whopping 58 percent. The key is to pique the readers curiosity, getting them to open that email message because they need to know more.

    3. Capitalising the Subject Line

If you capitalize the first letter of each word in the subject line, it looks much more professional than all lower case. It help to spark a little more engagement and grab hold of their attention compared to the list of other emails they receive.

    4. Personalising Your Emails

If your recipient sees only generic messages, and then one with their name clearly displayed, they are much more likely to open the message specifically directed to them. Even if you only put their first name in the subject line, it helps to differentiate your message from the mass spam messages circulating the web each day.

    5. Testing Your Message

You might be surprised to discover that over 80% of smartphone users open their email with their mobile device. You had better check to see what your message looks like on a mobile phone before sending it out. Send a test to your phone, and see if your message is easily read and understood on that smaller device. Mobile technology is becoming more popular every year, and your email campaigns should be optimised for mobile.

    6. Message Matches Subject Line

The key to keeping the reader attention is to make sure the email message is a continuation of the subject line. Getting them to open that email is half of the battle, now deliver the goods with an effectively written message.

    7. Inviting Interaction

Most people are used to seeing some sort of standard response at the end of an email that gives them information they need to contact the sender. If the reader has a question, they are asked to call a number and their message will be addressed. Make is much more easier for your reader if they have a question after reading your email message. Simply tell your audience to reply to the email and someone from your company will read that message and respond accordingly.

    8. Change Links to Buttons

Everyone is so used to seeing those blue links at the end of the email message, they really have lost their effectiveness. Substitute brightly colored buttons for those links, and the reader will be more likely to click on your call to action offerings.

    9. Proofread and Proofread Again

Nothing looks less professional than an email message full of spelling and grammatical errors. Either invest in a good spell checking tool, have another employee proofread the message, or read it backwards yourself. Reading the message backwards allows you to focus on each word individually. When you read normally, your brain scans ahead and often skips over even the most obvious of spelling mistakes.

5 Ways to Boost Ecommerce Sales This Christmas

    by Saul Edmonds

5 Ways to Increase Your Ecommerce Revenue This Christmas Time

              Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling.
              Edna Ferber

Learn to Increase Your Profits This Season

During the 2013 holiday season, e-commerce sales hit an incredible $46 billion is sales.

That number will easily be exceeded this holiday season, as more consumers are shopping online each year. If you are not planning to capitalise on that bounty of potential sales you could be losing an opportunity to increase your e-commerce revenues.

However, if you simply incorporate these 5 sales ideas, you could be significantly growing your opportunities this Christmas.

    1. Utilising Adwords Remarketing

Adwords is an extremely powerful tool for targeting new business.

Not too many retailers are aware that by creating a remarking list, you have the potential to explode your sales this holiday season. Remarketing simply is a way to target customers who have already previously visited your website. With Adwords, you simply apply a small snippet of coding on your website and when a new visitor arrives on that page, a cookie is created and saved in your list. The list can later be targeted with specific Adwords campaigns.

To understand how this process works, imagine a visitor stopped on your website page for green t-shirts. Now you create a list for people who wanted green t-shirts, and a display ad with that image will now follow them when they search on the internet, making it much easier for them to return back to your site to make the purchase.

    2. The Power of Facebook Ads

Facebook has quickly become the leader in social media in a short period of time.

Recent studies have shown the average Facebook user is spending 55 minutes a day in Facebook.

The Facebook ads also allow you to target specific users and reach a brand new audience. Facebook recent statistics show that right before the holiday season, Facebook sees a huge surge in traffic.

It helps to get a message across in a unique way that many other forms of advertising can not. You can connect with an audience and deliver your unique message, allowing the message to be shared by your growing social media audience. The infographic can be shared with your fans, who in turn allow their inner circle to continue to spread the word.

Creating a cleaver infographic themed around the holiday season could explode your sales in just a short amount of time. Bringing awareness to your store can be easily done without the image looking to promotional, and once the word spreads, the influx of new traffic begins.

    4. Using InstaGram to Get Sales

If you aren't already on InstaGram, you are missing a unique opportunity to get your business seen by thousands of new users who are actively looking for new places to shop.

Twitter has seen a drop in usage this year, while Instagram continues to experience a steady growth. The platform is based on the premise of taking photos and sharing them with the world. Smart business owners incorporate their products in those photos, and then encourage their fans to do the same. The end result is you create a buzz to your store and your products.

Incorporate popular hashtags in your posts to reach thousands of new users each day. Offer unique prizes for users who post pictures of themselves with your products. Your brand gets a boost with little effort on your part.

    5. Focus on Cart Abandonment

During the increase in traffic to your website this holiday season, there will certainly be an increase in the shopping carts that get abandoned too.

Studies have shown over 68% of shoppers abandon their cart without ever going back to close the sale.

For whatever reason they left, you can to make an effort to get them back to the store to complete the deal. Incorporate new technology designed to trigger a message when a person is about to abandon the cart.

A free shipping offer or special discount code could entice them to complete the deal without leaving.

Top 12 Small Business Web Design Tips

    by Saul Edmonds

12 Key Elements of a Highly Converting Small Business Website

“Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future.” Robert L. Peters

A high performance website is a key asset for every business.

An engaging website that connects with your target audience - can determine whether a potential customer chooses to browse and shop or simply move on to one of your competitor's websites.

Understanding what goals you have for your website during the design phase can help you to create a website that attracts more visitors and gets more sales.

Here are the top twelve small business web design tips that will transform your website into a top lead generation tool.

    1. The Branding

Building trust with potential visitors starts with an attractive and professional logo. Your logo is the visual foundation of your brand. Keep it simple with the colours and the graphics, making certain that your key business message is incorporated into the design.

    2. Keep it Simple

When a potential customer arrives on your website homepage, within five seconds they know if they are going to stay or hit the back button and look elsewhere. One of the biggest reasons for customers to leave is a lack of user friendliness. Ensure that your website is easy to use and well organized.

    3. Clean Graphics

Do not overload your homepage with too many graphics or you risk losing potential buyers. Include only well designed and relevant visual designs and images, but remember that less is more.

    4. Easy to Read Fonts

Use fonts that you have already incorporated in your brand guidelines and logo to help keep your message consistent. Ensure that additional fonts are clean and easy to read. Remember that legibility is paramount. Some visitors can find certain fonts difficult to see and understand.

    5. Page Content

Make certain that your page has at least 200 or more words of relevant content that is sprinkled in with niche related keywords to maximise search engine optimisation. Keep the font of the text simple and easy to read. Break up the content with bold text, bullet points, numbered lists, and hyperlink anchor text to other pages on your website. Aim to engage your audience with useful information that is well presented.

    6. Contact Information

You might be surprised to know that 50% of small business websites do not clearly place their contact information on the homepage. This is extremely important if you want a customer to feel comfortable that they can reach you when they have questions and concerns.

    7. The Search Button

People who visit your website for the first time want to get the information they need instantly - or they will go elsewhere. Make it easy for them to find the content they need with a search bar at the top of each page or in the footer.

    8. Navigation

The site map on your website tells both your visitors and the search engine spiders about all the pages of content within the website. Update the site map if you are adding or deleting pages frequently.

    9. Icons and Calls to Action

Custom designed icons - that are styled to co-ordinate with your brand and design guidelines - add visual impact to every webpage. Icons are a great way to promote links and downloads throughout your site. Encourage immediate response with clear calls to action that motivate people to get started now.

    10. Quality Images

If you are selling products on your website, use multiple images that give the most detail as possible. People appreciate detailed visual information. This may be the only thing that helps a customer decide on making the purchase or not.

    11. Relevant Content

To attract the search engine spiders and get new traffic often, you must add fresh and relevant content to you website often. Make a regularly updated blog a key priority in your web marketing strategy.

    12. Interaction with Customers

Keep your customers engaged by giving them the opportunity to take part in surveys, leave comments, rate products, and leave reviews on services they have utilised from your website.

Maximise your opportunity online with a high converting website - that is customised to meet the needs of the people you know best - your customers.

5 Top Tips to Use When Hiring a Web Developer

    by Saul Edmonds

5 Tips for Finding the Best Web Developer for Your Project

"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
    - Steve Jobs, 2003

When you need to grow your business online - finding the right web developer is crucial.

Keep in mind that your web developer will be presenting your brand to the world; and this is how your customers will know you online.

Choosing the right web developer the first time is very important. You must locate a developer who works for your company's best interests, whilst striving to achieve the following key goals : growing your brand, converting visitors and increasing your profits.

Here are the top five tips when locating a web developer for your website.

    1. Matching Personalities

The person that is developing your website will be in close contact with you throughout the development process. You are going to be bouncing ideas off each other, and spending considerable time creating and refining your project.

Working with a person who has similar characteristics to you will make this process smoother. If you find a web developer who works at a different tempo to yourself - you will experience frustration.

Look for someone who shares your personality traits and you are off to a great start.

     2. A Trial Project

A good idea is to trial the web developer with a smaller project like a blog or designing a profile on a social media website.

You will get a feel for how fast they work, how they correspond with you, and the overall quality of their work this way. If you are happy with the working relationship and outcomes, move them on to a bigger project or proceed to building your website.

    3. Willingness to Learn

The digital technology industry is constantly changing; what was popular last year is out this year. Finding a web developer who is specialised in one specific area might be a problem because those skills might not help to keep your website competitive from year to year.

Look for someone to develop your website who is quickly able to adapt and learn new skills as technology evolves. You can find out if they possess this skill by simply asking them what new skills have they acquired, what new programs have they learned, and which emerging technologies are applicable to your project.

    4. Take Your Time

Take your time when hiring a new web developer.

Once you have made a decision regarding who to work with - commit to that relationship for the duration of your project. Changing developers mid project is never recommended.

Ensure that clear goals and milestones are established and maintain a close communication throughout your project to ensure milestones are achieved. Ask questions. Explore alternative designs. Work to establish a true partnership - where all stakeholders are unified to achieve the highest outcomes - on time and on budget.

    5. Stay for the Long Term

A quality web developer is a valuable long term partner in the success of your business online.

Once you find a web developer who is dedicated to realising your goals; continue to work with them long term - as your business grows and technology changes over time.

When the right team comes together - the sky is truly the limit!

How To Build Your Brand on Twitter

    by Saul Edmonds

A Simple Guide to Building Your Brand with Twitter

“Ultimately, brands need to have a role in society. The best way to have a role in society is to understand how people are talking about things in real time.”
    - Jean-Philippe Maheu, Chief Digital Officer, Ogilvy

    Effective Twitter Branding

The key to Twitter branding is solving the needs of your customers - while giving them reasons to want to visit your website frequently.

Getting your buyers excited about your brand via Twitter can deliver huge benefits that are equal to any advertising campaign. Social media websites like Twitter allow you to reach a huge audience - however, you have to get that point across in only a few words.

    Know Your Point of Difference

When your brand is unique - you stand apart from your competitors.

Utilise that point of difference to solve the needs of your audience. Discover genuine ways to resonate with your customers. Deliver targeted content so that buyers learn more about your business and fall in love with your products and services. Over time - an engaged customer they will begin to talk about your company to their inner circles. This is how the Twitter branding takes off.

    Emotional Engagement

Once you get a person emotionally involved with your product, they naturally tell others how your product helps them and share your company information. Every retweet or favourite of your twitter messages, essentially promotes your company and refers others to your business for free.

Harness the Power of Word of Mouth Marketing

It only takes a few people that enjoy your service and tweets to begin spreading the word for you.

They will tweet your messages to their friends, talk about your company when they are at work, or even tell their friends about it when they are socialising over weekends.

The key to Twitter branding is - to get those short messages out there frequently, remind your followers of the quality of your products and services; and provide relevant and unique content that delivers genuine benefit. Your tweets must be 'on brand' - and align successfully with your company message and brand reputation. Relevant information - delivered consistently to your target consumer - will inspire your followers to share with their networks and take your message to the world.

    A Targeted Message

When you are passionate about what you are selling, the world can pick that up even in the smallest of tweets. A genuine message sets you apart from your competition. If your products or services are designed to be cost effective and affordable, then send that message. If your products are designed to lessen the carbon footprint of users, tell the world and you will quickly become recognized as a leader in your industry and not just another salesman.

Whatever your business, state your passion in everything you do and say. Be passionate about helping people improve their lives. Let this shine through with every tweet. If your business is all about going green, you can even post when you see a competitors products you feel will help the world. This shows your following that you are not all about making money, you truly want to leave the world a better place. The end result will be more referrals, and in time - many more sales.

Are you making the most of twitter to build your brand?

Roundhouse has been delivering marketing services - both online and offline - since 2001. We deliver innovative social media strategies and content to grow your business and profits online. We can help you utilise twitter to connect with your audience.

3 Fundamentals of Web Design for Small Business Owners

The Key Elements of Web Design for Small Business Owners

"Behind every small business, there's a story worth knowing."
    Paul Ryan

What makes a small business website effective?

Many small business owners have concerns about their current company website and wish to upgrade it. They want to ensure their company website works effectively with the latest technology – to attract customers, convert prospects and deliver a positive and engaging user experience.

Yet, beginning a new web project can be a daunting process. Every week it seems that technology is advancing at a record pace.

Fortunately, there are a few key fundamentals when it comes to small business web design that can help you get a great website, meet your business goals and stay on budget.

Read on to discover our top 3 fundamentals of website design for small business owners.

    Build For Multiple Platforms

Some business owners spend considerable time making sure that their website looks incredible on their computer monitor.

The problem here is that many people no longer use their desktop computer to browse the web. In fact, these days a majority of people use mobile devices and tablets to visit websites, with screens much smaller than the traditional desktop monitor.

When it comes to a high performing small business web design, build your website to work effectively on all types of mobile devices - or risk losing potential sales. Visitors want to visit a website and easily navigate the pages in a clear and concise manner.

A responsive web design will ensure a quality user experience for your customers across all platforms – desktop, tablet and mobile.

    The Right Code

It is recommended that your new website be built using both CSS3 and HTML5 languages. Used together they will dramatically improve the user experience. In layman’s terms, the HTML5 is similar to the frame and foundation of a home, whereas the CSS3 is the unique details like furniture, paint, landscaping, and structural design. When you are in the initial stages of your small business web design, be sure to incorporate both languages.

    The Content Management System

The CMS – or Content Management System - is a key component of your website that will make your life much easier - as you develop, update and add new content to your website over time.

The CMS will simplify all your website management tasks. This tool is worth its weight in gold. With a good content management system you will never have to worry about managing your website again.

Ensure that your website is built right from the ground up, and features the right tools. This will leave you time to focus on growing your brand and increasing your traffic.

How To Encourage Your Website Visitors to Stay Longer

    Increase Customer Engagement

If your website experiences a high bounce rate, or if your visitors are clicking the back button just seconds after they hit your homepage - it can be from a number of factors.

Here are a few ways to encourage your website visitors to stay longer and engage more with your website and brand online.

    Try Adding a Compelling Video

If you have something important to say and it takes many thousands of words to say it, why not say it with video?

A professional video offers people an opportunity to engage more readily with your content.  A ‘user friendly’ video delivers key information to your target audience in a compelling and easy to digest format.

Creating a professional video today is surprisingly affordable. Video offers numerous advantages with regard to encouraging visitors to remain onsite.

People simply love video content. Consider including video content in your website and online marketing strategy to immediately boost engagement.

    Break Up Your Text

Think about landing on an interesting website, only to find the content arranged in one giant paragraph without any page breaks or layout styling.

Look at your content from the eyes of your visitor. Make it easy for them to not only read, but to understand as well.

Each paragraph should have a maximum of five sentences. Try to incorporate an image in the text to break up all those words. Add bold and italic styling to your keywords so they jump off the page and stand out more.

    Implement Internal Links

When visitors come to your website, they are looking for information.

This is the perfect opportunity to give them what they want while providing an opportunity to learn more.

For example, within your blog posts or other content - why not link some of your keywords to related information on your website?

Help your visitors to discover more about your company and services. Build ongoing engagement with your information and resources.

Without any internal links, your visitors may be reading your content and then simply leaving your website. To boost engagement, place a link within each paragraph (or at the end where appropriate) to other relevant content elsewhere on your website.

Internal linking will lower your bounce rate significantly and increase time spent on your website.

    Create Your Calls to Action

To really keep your website visitors engaged, all you really have to do is ask them to stay. Clear calls to action ensure you tell your visitor what to do next – phone your office, set an appointment, leave a comment, share your content, learn more.

Your website is about sharing relevant information with your target audience. Offer interesting and diverse content that includes video, articles, information and images. Actively encourage your visitors to contact you and get involved.

    Check Your Stats

Finally, always check your website analytics to ensure that your website is technically optimised for viewing. You may find that your keywords are not relevant to content or that some pages are taking too long to load. Use that information to consistently improve your user’s experience.

How to Grow Your Business with Customer Testimonials

    by Saul Edmonds
How to Grow Your Business with Customer Testimonials

    Why Customer Testimonials Build Trust

"If you work just for money, you’ll never make it, but if you love what you’re doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours."
    - Ray Krock

Share Your Customer Feedback and Experience

One of the easiest ways to grow your business is by incorporating customer testimonials into your marketing plan.

But how do you inspire your customers to actually take the time to positively review your business? This does involve some upfront work to streamline the process.

Here are some simple strategies you can implement to grow your business with customer testimonials:

    Start with LinkedIn

Setting up a business profile on LinkedIn is a recommended first step towards acquiring new customer testimonials. Invest time in creating and reviewing your LinkedIn business profile. This is an important extension of your main business and must look professional. Once you have begun connecting with others, join groups relevant to your niche and post helpful tips and advice to industry group members. Aim to participate regularly, if possible on a daily basis.

Once you have established a following on LinkedIn, getting an endorsement is simple. Your profile will have an endorsement button that gives people the opportunity to promote your business with a simple click. While this is not as important as positive comments or customer feedback on your profile or website, it provides a foundation of trust.

    Website Testimonials

Your website should already have a testimonials page clearly visible for potential customers to see.  Obtain testimonials by corresponding with customers who have already purchased from you. Simply ask them if they would consider rating their individual experience with your company and providing a few words of feedback. Reaching out is sometimes all it takes to acquire genuine, positive feedback.

    Build Trust with Real Reviews

The key to the perfect customer testimonial is to get reviews from people that actually encourage new customers to want to do business with you.

To do this, ask your customers how they felt about your service. Inquire if you could have done anything more to make the transaction go smoother. Use this feedback to consistently  improve your service or products.

The best kind of testimonial will focus on one aspect of your transaction and bring it to the forefront. A testimonial need not be long, but it must offer genuine feedback.

If you intend to include the testimonial in your marketing - ask your customers to provide a personal photo to accompany it. A clear photo that includes your customer’s name and business details adds additional credibility to their comment.  This will make the decision easier for new customers when it becomes times to make a purchase. Your testimonial has become a personal recommendation.

3 Ways to Build Customer Loyalty

    by Saul Edmonds
6_3 Ways to Build Customer Loyalty.png

Simple Customer Loyalty Ideas for Your Business

"A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all."
    Michael LeBoeuf

One of the best ways to build customer loyalty is to put yourself in the role of a customer.

When you visit a retailer or supplier and receive a genuine hello or thank you, how does that make you feel? When you order a product or service, how do you feel when you receive a follow up call or letter asking if you were satisfied, and thank you for placing your order?

Small courtesies really matter when it comes to building customer loyalty.

Here are 4 ways to build customer loyalty that will help to grow your customer base and increase your overall traffic.

The more you engage with customers the clearer things become and the easier it is to determine what you should be doing.
    John Russell, President, Harley Davidson

    1. The Loyalty Programme

People love to be rewarded for their patronage, and whether you provide a loyalty card or a rewards program that encourages future purchases, if the underlying theme is that you appreciate the customers business you will see an increase in customer loyalty. Providing your customers with rewards tells them that even though they might consider looking elsewhere for the same product at a better price, the fact you take the time to provide them with bonuses and rewards for continuing to patronage goes a long way.

    Action:
Find ways to implement a loyalty programme in your organisation. Create a community centred upon the needs of your customers, develop a rewards programme or introduce and promote membership benefits.

    2. Handwritten Thank You

You recently purchased a new vehicle from your local auto dealer and within a week you received a hand written thank you letter from the salesperson who sold you the car. On the anniversary of that sale, you received another hand written thank you again telling you how much your business is appreciated and if you ever need anything to please call. What do you think the chances of that person referring their family and friends to that dealership are? They are extremely high because a simple handwritten note gave you and the dealer a connection that you can not get from flyers, commercials and emails like the competition does. Take the time to thank your customers with a simple handwritten note and express your sincere gratitude.

    Action:
Take the time to connect individually with your customers. In the world of emails and text, a handwritten card or note stands out. Invest a little time in discovering the value of written communication.

    3. Know Your Customers

It takes just as much time to small talk with a customer as it does to genuinely ask them questions concerning their lives. Asking about a child, or a sick family member, a new pet or a new addition to the family are all ways to show your customer that you have a connection with them. If you notice a change in their life and make reference to it, you show that customer that you do have concerns about them. These feelings can build customer loyalty for a lifetime.

    Action:
Get to know your customers. Relationship building is the foundation of quality customer service. Ensure every customer feels valued and understood.

"Customer satisfaction is worthless. Customer loyalty is priceless."
    Jeffrey Gitomer
